    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently synthesizing an optically active alcohol with high optical purity which has an aromatic hydrocarbon group and a heterocycle in producing an optically active alcohol expected as an intermediate for synthesizing a drug and various intermediates of agricultural chemicals and the like. SOLUTION: The method for producing the optically active alcohol comprises reacting a carbonyl compound having an aromatic hydrocarbon group and a heterocycle with a hydrogen source in the presence of a catalyst including a ruthenium complex having an optically active diphosphine compound having asymmetry on carbon and a certain specific diamine compound as ligands to efficiently synthesize the optically active alcohol having high optical purity.
