    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel excavator equipped with a tail seal device which has tail seal brushes arranged in multiple stages to cope with high water pressure cutoff, has air tubes arranged at respective tail seal brush sliding portions, to thereby improve adhesiveness of the sliding portions and exert sufficient sealing performance. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the tunnel excavator, the tail seal device which slides on an outer surface of a main line segment S1 corresponding to a fixed shell, and an outer surface of a widened segment S2 corresponding to a movable shell, is formed of: band-shaped first tail seal brushes 33a to 33d set on an inner surface of the fixed shell in multiple stages along a longitudinal direction; band-shaped second tail seal brushes 34a to 34d set on an inner surface of the movable shell in multiple stages at locations where the first tail seal brushes are slidable; and first air tubes 35a to 35d arranged at mounting portions of the first and second tail seal brushes, for energizing the tips of the first and second tail seal brushes toward the outer surfaces of the main line segment and the widened segment.
