摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rolling mill lubricant composition which efficiently adheres to a roll or a material in rolling and is excellent in oil-water separation properties by compounding a base oil selected from among mineral oils, etc., with a cationic polymeric compound having a specified number average mol.wt. SOLUTION: The base oil comprises at least one substance selected from among mineral oils, natural oils or fats, synthetic esters and synthetic hydrocarbons. The cationic polymeric compound is a copolymer formed from (A) at least one compound represented by formula I or II and (B) at least one compound selected from among (meth)acrylic esters, vinyl alcohol derivatives, fumaric esters and maleic esters each having an alkyl or alkenyl group, preferably in a wt. ratio of A/B of (1/5)-(5/1), and has a number average mol.wt. of 3,000-1,000,000. Preferably, the polymeric compound is contained in a concentration of 10-5,000 ppm in the composition. In the formulas, R1 to R3 are each H or CH3; R4 and R5 are each 1-3C alkyl; and n is 3-5. The composition is used preferably in cold rolling or hot rolling.

At this time, a tank level gage 11 is used for normal level control (stored quantity control) of the tank main body 1 and when discharging the sludge, the control is switched to that by a liquid gage 12 for the sludge discharge tank 3.

SOLUTION: When the rolling oil is jetted from a rolling oil nozzle 3 on the surface of the work roll 1, dewatering is executed by bringing a dewatering wiper device 4 into contact with the surface of the work roll 1 and also, in accordance with the kinds of the hot rolled stocks, either of a completely stopping mode where the supply of cooling water to the cooling water nozzles 2a on the rolling-oil jetting side is completely stopped or a flow-rate limiting mode where the flow rate of the cooling water is limited at a specified value is selected. When the completely stopping mode is selected, the supply of the cooling water from the cooling water nozzles 2a is completely stopped and, when the flow-rate limiting mode is selected, the flow rate of the specified value of the cooling water which is preset is flowed.
