摘要： PURPOSE:To produce a refractory free from the deterioration of strength in a medium temp. range at high productivity by mixing a specific silicone modified phenolic resin as a binder with a fireproofing material and heating to harden and integrate. CONSTITUTION:An organic silicone compound (e.g. methylmethoxysilane) of 50-500 pts.wt. having silicon atom bonding hydrolyzable group is mixed with 100 pts.wt. phenolic resin (e.g. novolak type phenolic resin) and a condensation reaction catalyst is added thereinto and stirred at a temp. above the melting point of the phenolic resin for 2-10 hours. The reaction mixture is used as it is or after hydrolyzing with water and condensing. A raw material of refractory conventionally named a fireproofing aggregate or fire resistant material is used as the fireproofing material. The compounding ratio of the fireproofing material to the silicone modified phenolic resin is 100:(1-20) by weight. The mixture is filled into a prescribed metal die, press molded and hardened at 100-50 deg.C. The obtained refractory is free from the deterioration of strength in the medium temp. range of 500-1300 deg.C.

As the refractory aggregate, silica, alumina, magnesia, chromium ore, SiC and graphite, etc., are used. As low-m.p. metal, Al, Mg, Zn, Sn, Ba, Pb, etc., or alloy thereof is used. Further as thermosetting resin, phenol resin, furan resin and epoxy resin, etc., are used.
