    • PURPOSE:To enhance wear and corrosion resistance by using polyimide resin contg. an inorg. or org. filler in a water-insoluble underlayer and specifying the thickness of the resin layer after drying and the average particle diameter of the filler when a ferromagnetic metallic thin film is formed on a nonmagnetic substrate with the underlayer in-between to obtain a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer 2 is formed on the front side of a nonmagnetic substrate 1 with an underlayer 6 in-between and this magnetic layer 2 is protected with a protective layer 4. A lubricative layer 5 is formed on the protective layer 4 and a back coat layer 3 is stuck to the rear side of the substrate 1 to obtain a magnetic recording medium. In this structure, a fine particle- shaped filler such as colloidal silica dispersed in alcohol is incorporated into satd. polyester, polyamide or polyimide as the base of the underlayer 5 and the relation between the thickness (d) (nm) of the resin layer after drying and the average particle diameter (rm) of the filler is allowed to satisfy 65>(rm-d)>5. The substrate 1 is made free from high protrusions and the deterioration of electromagnetic transducing characteristics and the increase of drop- out are avoided.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance by forming a resin layer mainly comprising a saturated polyester resin having a specified composition on the side, where the magnetic recording constituting layer of a supporter is formed, and shaping the resin layer of a water insoluble resin containing fine particles having a specified diameter and a ferromagnetic metallic thin-film layer onto the resin layer. CONSTITUTION:Resin layers 6, 7 are formed onto a nonmagnetic supporter 1, and a magnetic layer 2 and a protective layer 4 are shaped onto the resin layer 7. A back coating layer 3 and a lubricating layer 5 onto the protective layer 4 are often formed. The resin layer 6 has the component of formula [O-R1 OCO-R2-CO]n mainly comprising a saturated polyester resin, and the resin layer 7 has a composition shown in formula [O-R3-CO]n using a water insoluble resin as a main component and comprises the fine particles of colloidal silica having particle size of 0.01-0.1mum. In formula, R1, R2, R3 represent two kinds of bivalent groups, which may have a substituting group, and an aliphatic group and an aromatic group, and R1, R2 may also be the same or differ. The magnetic layer 2 is formed in thickness of 500-10000Angstrom through a vacuum deposition method, etc., from a ferromagnetic metal such as Fe, Co, a Co-Ni alloy, etc.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having a high abrasion resistance and an excellent corrosion resistance by a method wherein an intermediate layer of which the main component is resin having prescribed characteristics is formed in a prescribed thickness on one surface of a nonmagnetic substrate and a ferromagnetic metal thin film is provided on the intermediate layer. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate layer 6 is provided on a nonmagnetic substrate 1, a magnetic layer 2 is provided thereon and further a protective layer 4 is provided thereon. A back coat layer 3 may be provided and also a lubricating layer 5 is sometimes provided on the protective layer 4. The intermediate layer 6 provided on one surface of the substrate 1, of which the main component is resin which contains particles of an average particle size 0.01 to 0.1mum and has a water absorption rate of 0.05% or below, is formed to be 0.005 to 0.1mum thick. The magnetic layer 2 being a ferromagnetic metal thin film is formed on this intermediate layer 6. Thereby a medium being excellent in a rustproof performance, little deteriorated in a magnetic characteristic and an electromagnetic conversion characteristic even after storage at a high temperature and high humidity, little curled after the storage and excellent in a running property is obtained.
