    • PURPOSE:To facilitate the calcination of the green pellets molded from the incineration ashes of municipal refuse and to prevent the formation of large lumps by the fusion of the calcined products at the time of calcination. CONSTITUTION:Surface layers S consisting of the powder and granular materials made of sewer sludge incineration ashes or CaO of high basicity having the high calcination temp. higher than the calcination temp. of the green pellets P consisting of the incineration ashes of the municipal refuse and a high m.p. are formed on the surfaces of these green pellets. The green pellets P are then calcined at the temp. between the calcination temp. of the green pellets and the calcination temp. of the powder and granular materials, by which the calcination temp. width thereof is widened and the conditions for setting the calcination temp. by an incineration ash sintering device are made less strict and, therefore, the calcination is correspondingly facilitated. In addition, the surface layers S are formed on the surfaces and, therefore, the fusion of the calcined products of the green pellets P to each other do not arise. The surface layers S are of course removed after the end of the calcination and the powder and granular materials of the removed surface layers are recycled.

    • PURPOSE:To attain combustion with less environmental pollution and no avail by a method wherein the radiant heat generated by the flame in an incineration furnace is detected to monitor the combustion state in the incineration furnace directly, and combustion air is controlled according to the fluctuation in the detected results so as to restrain generation of carbon monoxides and black smoke. CONSTITUTION:In the case a radiant heat ratio B/A is less than 1.2, where A is the radiant heat detected at present and B is the radiant heat detected a specified time period ago, it is decided that the fluctuation in the radiant heat is within a specified range, and combustion air for complete combustion is not fed. And, in the case the radiant ration B/A is not less than 1.2, it is decided that a sharp fluctuation in the radiant heat occurs, and an air flow rate corresponding to the ratio is set. Since the combustion state in a combustion chamber 14 is directly monitored by an optical detector 26, even when a sharp increase in the heat generation amount in the combustion chamber 14 arises, it is instantaneously detected by the optical detector 26. A combustion controller 40 receives signals from the optical detector and outputs control signals to a flow control valve 38 so that combustion air for complete combustion is supplied into combustion gas via a combustion air feed device to completely burn unburnt components.

    • PURPOSE:To optimize the efficiency of dewatered sludge treatment by a method wherein dewatered sludge is restrainedly burnt in an incinerator to convert it into exhaust gas and incinerated ashes containing therein unburnt organic substances and then the incineration ashes are melted by heating within a whirling type melting furnace to recover them as slag in a melted state. CONSTITUTION:By carrying out the restrained combustion or the thermal decomposition of dewatered sludge in, for example, a fluidized bed type incinerator 1, the dewatered sludge is converted into exhaust gas G and incineration ashes A containing therein unburnt organic substances. The exhaust gas G and the incineration ashes A are separated, and the incineration ashes A are discharged, together with air for combustion and supplementary fuel, into a current type melting furnace 8 to be burnt and melted by heating, thereby recovering the ashes A as slag in a melted state. That is, the incinerated ashes A containing therein unburnt organic substances, which are discharged together with the exhaust gas G from the incinerator 1 for the dewatered sludge, are arrested and collected to a cyclone 2, and thereafter they are supplied to the melting furnace 8 together with incineration ashes A' which are transferred from a dry type electric dust collector 5. In the melting furnace 8, the incineration ashes A are mixed with air to form a solid and air two-phase flow and are blown into the furnace 8 to be whirled, whereupon they are melted by heating to be turned into slag and recovered.
