    • PURPOSE:To prevent a material from being judged as acceptable even when its flaw has not been sensed yet and to guarantee a quality with high reliability by a method wherein the noise level of a flaw detection signal generated during a flaw-detection inspection is compared with a reference monitoring-signal level which has been set arbitrarily. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic flux generated by an exciting yoke installed on a rotor is passed through a round steel bar, a leakage flux is generated when a flaw exists on the surface. The leakage flux is detected by a probe unit 12 having a structure in which the round steel bar is pressed by an arm, a spring and the like, and the flaw on the surface is detected. When the probe unit 12 is separated and levitated from the round steel bar due to any problem in the arm, the spring and the like for the probe unit 12, a flaw-detection analog voltage signal 28 becomes nearly zero. Then, a flaw-undetected-state detection apparatus 32 which detects the levitation of the probe unit 12 so as to sense an undetected state of a flaw is installed, the levitation of the probe unit 12 and the cutoff state of a signal line 22 can be always monitored during a flaw detection, and a problem that even a material whose flaw has not been sensed is judged to be a good material is solved.
