摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent the oxidation and reduction of C and metallic components on the surface of a slab caused by abnormal oxidation in a heating furnace, at the time of heating a stainless steel slab in a heating furnace before hot rolling, by previously coating the surface of the slab with an alkaline-earth metal chloride soln. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a stainless steel slab 11 having an oxidized scale layer 13 on the surface is coated with an aq. soln 10wt.% alkaline-earth metal chloride such as CaCl2 or the like so as to regulate CaCl2 to 100g per the surface/m of the slab 11 to form a CaCl2 film 16 on the scales 13 and to infiltrate the aq. soln. of CaCl2 through cracks 12. This surface-treated steel slab is charged to a heating furnace and is heated for about 3hr in a coke oven gas atmosphere of 1250 deg.C. The left CaCl2 in which moisture has been evaporated is formed into a molten state and is diffused into the scales 13, and the scales 13 and slab 11 are brought into a solid-liquid reaction to form many voids 14 and iron chloride 15 contg. CaCl2 on the boundary of the scales 13 and slab 11, by which the contact between the slab 11 and scales 13 is prevented, and the oxidation of C, Cr, Ni or the like on the surface of the slab 11 is prevented.
