    • PURPOSE: To make both the centers of a spindle and a wheel by lowering a tool rest after maing it synchronize with the ascent of the wheel by means of a lifter unit, stopping the movements of the lifter unit and the tool rest at a position where a detecting means has detected its contact with the wheel, and compensating a traveling position of the lifter unit according the outside dimensions. CONSTITUTION: A contact member attached to a tool rest 5 is outputted by a proximity switch at a time when it has contacted with a flange part of a machined wheel 2, and thereby a synchronous lifting motion between a lifter unit 8 and this tool rest 5 is stopped. Next, diametral measurement of the machined wheel 2 is operated by an amount of travel in the tool rest 5 or lifter unit 8, and in consequence of this operation, a fact of whether a diameter of the machined wheel 2 is larger than the reference size or not is judged. If a compensation value is outputted according to this judgment, the lifter unit 8 is made to go up on the basis of this compensation value, and then the center of this machined wheel 2 is accorded with that of a spindle 3a, and thus a center detecting process is over.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel supporting method of a car wheel lathe capable of automatically supporting the center of a wheel without applying an unreasonable force to the wheel even when a wheel with different axle lengths and a wheel with a same axle length are mixed, and the car wheel lathe. SOLUTION: The wheel supporting method of the car wheel lathe comprises two main spindle blocks for rotatably supporting respective main spindles, a wheel supporting member for supporting the wheel from both sides, a driving means for the wheel supporting member for back and forth moving each wheel supporting member to each main spindle, and turns a pair of wheel pairs of the wheel. The wheel supporting method comprises a first procedure for determining whether lengths of an axle part between the end surface of the wheel parts of the wheel and both ends of the wheel axle are different from each other, and a second procedure for controlling starting, stopping, or moving speed of the driving means so that the wheel supporting member simultaneously or substantially simultaneously presses and supports both ends of the wheel axle when it is determined that there is a difference in the first procedure.
