    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst immobilized material that is free from deterioration of water photolysis performance of a photocatalyst and can be easily and efficiently used, and a method of producing hydrogen and/or oxygen using the photocatalyst immobilized material.SOLUTION: The photocatalyst immobilized material for water decomposition includes a photocatalyst layer on a substrate. The photocatalyst layer includes a visible light-responsive optical semiconductor which is a nitride or an oxynitride containing one or more atoms selected from the group consisting of Ga, Zn, Ti, La, Ta, and Ba, a cocatalyst supported on the visible light-responsive optical semiconductor, and at least one hydrophilic inorganic material selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, and titanium oxide. In the method of producing hydrogen and/or oxygen, the photocatalyst immobilized material for water decomposition is set in water, and light is radiated to the photocatalyst immobilized material, thereby decomposing the water.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-performance electrode catalyst for cathodes comprising a non-noble metal compound and a method for producing the same.
      SOLUTION: The electrode catalyst for fuel cells containing an oxynitride with cathode catalyst ability is produced using as raw materials at least one type of the metal salts selected from the group consisting of La, Ba, Ca, Sr, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W, Ge, Ga, and the like, and using carbon particles with good conductivity. This method comprises the steps of polymerizing the metal salt via polymerization of a complex, dispersing and mixing carbon particles before and after the polymerization step, and acid-nitriding a composite material comprising the polymerized metal salt and dispersed and mixed carbon particles. The resulting electrode catalyst contains a metal oxynitride having cathode catalyst ability, wherein the metal element is uniformly loaded on the carbon particles as the oxynitride.
