      SOLUTION: Water-retaining ceramics 23 are housed in a bag 22 which is made of a net, so as to constitute a water-retaining material package 21. The water-retaining material packages 21 are laid and arranged on an asphalt or concrete surface of a roof floor or a ground surface, etc. The numbers of the tiers of stacked water-retaining material packages 21 are set different from each other, so as to increase an evaporation area. Preferably, the water-retaining material packages 21 are stacked in a staircase pattern. The water-retaining ceramics 23 are made of sintered porous ceramics; and portions equivalent to 53-70% of the total volume are composed of air holes with a hole diameter of 1-100 μm.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramics for water retention which has high water retainability, and in which the evaporating properties of water which has been involved is satisfactory, and which has high cooling effect by the evaporation latent heat of water, and to provide a water retaining structure using the ceramics for water retention. SOLUTION: The ceramics 20 for water retention is composed of a sintered porous ceramics, and has a vent hole 21 with an inside diameter of ≥1 mm communicated to the outside. In the whole volume, 53 to 70% is composed of pores with a pore size of 1 to 100 μm. The vent hole may be passed through the pillar axis direction of the ceramics for water retention or may be passed through the horizontal direction.
