    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clean the air containing dust in tunnel by preventing the dust form being rescattered. SOLUTION: When dust-containing air is introduced into a silent discharge type electric dust collector, particles 15 are charged in two poles of positive and negative at a silent discharge space between parallel plane plate electrodes and captured on the electrodes. When the polarity of an attracted electrode is positive, negatively charged particles are captured on the electrode. The negative charge of the particles is kept since a dielectric body 13 is allowed to exist between a metal electrode 12 and the charged particles. When the polarity of applied voltage is reversed and the polarity of an attracted electrode becomes negative, positively charged particle are captured on the electrode. The captured positively charged particles and the negatively charged particle on the electrodes are neutralized, and more electrostatic aggregation is not caused. That is, the aggregation between the particles on the electrode is suppressed. As a result, the particles are uniformly deposited on the surface of the electrode and rescattering is remarkably suppressed since the fluid resistance force of the deposited particles is low.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently collect dust from air containing the dust by preventing it from scattering again. SOLUTION: A rectangular wave high voltage is applied between dust collecting electrodes. In the section of a positive voltage, negatively charged floating particles are collected on the dust collecting electrode of positive polarity to which the high voltage is applied as indicated in (a). The collected particles are immediately positively charged and form beaded plate agglomerates. In the following section of changing from positive to negative, the polarity of the voltage applied to the dust collecting electrodes is suddenly changed from positive to negative, the beaded plate agglomerates (positively charged) receive force in the direction of the dust collecting electrode of negative polarity by static electricity and change to spherical agglomerates as indicated in (b). In the following section of a negative voltage, as indicated in (c), though the collected particles are negatively charged on the dust collecting electrode of the negative polarity, they change to the spherical agglomerates, wind force and electrostatic force acting as peeling force are reduced and they do not scatter again.
