Each lifting type parking system is provided with a main lift storing a pallet transverse device and vertically moved in a hoistway and parking shelves provided in many stages across the hoistway. Automobiles mounted on pallets are laterally moved in the width direction and delivered between the main lift and the parking shelves. The automobiles are vertically moved in upper stages above the second story in the lifting type parking system on this side A and to the underground from the upper stages in the lifting type parking system on the depth side B. The parking shelves on this side A are provided in the stages of the third story or above, and the parking shelves on the depth side B are provided in the stages of the stories other than the second story. The first story portion has a front vacant lot wholly on this side A and an entry/exit space on the depth side B. The entry/exit is conducted in the vertical direction through the front vacant lot, and pallet lifting devices are arranged at the second-story portions on both this side A and the depth side B across the hoistway.

Also, the lift apparatus is so arranged that the empty pallets on them can be lifted up to the position C of the empty pallet at the lowest layer. In this way, a plurality of empty pallets are stocked on the stacking buffer racks by the lift apparatus and supporting claws, and the longitudinal and lateral feed racks not loading the pallets can be increased at any time and a pallet 1b for an actual car is placed thereon.

SOLUTION: This parking device is provided with a lift device 12 vertically conveying a pallet, a stacking buffer shelf 14, and a plurality of vertically and horizontally feeding shelves 16 arranged in a plane adjacently to the lift device 12, and at least one of the vertically and horizontally feeding shelves 16 is adjacent to the stacking buffer shelf 14. Each of the lift device and the vertically and horizontally feeding shelves is provided with a vertically and horizontally feeding mechanism 18 transferring a pallet positioned on it to the adjacent apparatus 12, 14, 16 horizontally and vertically. The stacking buffer shelf is provided with a feeding mechanism transferring a pallet on it to the adjacent vertically and horizontally feeding shelf in either of the vertical or horizontal direction and provided with a shifting mechanism stacking an empty pallet positioned on it for shifting it upward. A plurality of empty pallets are stacked in the stacking buffer shelf so as to be stored on the stacking buffer shelf or the vertically and horizontally feeding shelf adjacent to the buffer shelf, so that the vertically and horizontally feeding shelves carrying no pallet is optionally increased for placing a vehicle mounting pallet on it.

Then, the laterally transferring device for pallets is moved down and the loaded pallet 5 is fed to the main lift 3 waiting in the A-building by the vertically transferring device 16 for pallets installed in respective second floors to contain the car onto a parking shelf 4. When containing a car 6 in the B-building, the loaded pallet 5 is received from the auxiliary lift 13 by the laterally transferring device 7 installed in the main lift 3 waiting on the second floor of the B-building and the car is contained in a containing shelf 4. Since main lifts are provided in both A and B buildings, cars are smoothly transferred and driving-in and out time is reduced.
