    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for clarifying exhaust gas which can efficiently clarify particulate matter contained in the exhaust gas. SOLUTION: The catalyst for clarifying exhaust gas is used for clarifying the particulate matter contained in the exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine, is constituted of a chain combustion catalyst and an ignition catalyst and has specific surface area of 10 to 35 m 2 /g. The chain combustion catalyst is composed of composite oxide containing at least two sorts of elements chosen from a group composed of alkaline metal, alkaline earth metal, rare earth metal, transition metal and noble metal. The ignition catalyst is deposited on a surface of the chain combustion catalyst and is composed of at least one sort of metal chosen from a group composed of alkaline metal, alkaline earth metal, transition metal and noble metal.
