      SOLUTION: A flow guides 12a or 12b is provided on the upper stay ring 3, the lower stay ring 5 or both of those between a part of stay vanes to mitigate quick contraction and quick expansion of a channel in the channel comprising the upper stay ring 3 and the lower stay ring 4 opposing to the plurality of stay vanes 2 and having the nonparallel meridian plane shapes of the channel by the upper stay ring 3 and the lower stay ring 4.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic machine not susceptible to breakage or dropping off caused by a force received by fluid and having a straightening member excellent in ease of mounting work.
      SOLUTION: The straightening member 9 of the hydraulic machine has an arc-like cross-sectional shape, and is fixed to an outer periphery of a stay ring 4, so that a projection part of the arc directs on a flow passage 3a side of the casing 3. A support member 11 is fixed to the outer periphery of the stay ring 4, and the straightening member 9 is fixed to the support member 11. In this way, since the straightening member 9 has structure held by the stay ring 4 not connected with the casing 3 and does not transmits the force received by the straightening member 9 to the casing 3, the breakage of the casing 3 or the dropping off of the straightening member 9 is suppressed, and the installation is performed only by relatively simple process, that is, welding.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lip seal displaying stable sliding property even under a condition of a small water leakage, without requiring maintenance and with unchanging amount of small water leakage even when used over a long period of time, and which is usable with a water wheel. SOLUTION: The lip seal is equipped with a sleeve fixed to a main shaft, a packing arranged to surround the outer periphery of the sleeve, and a metallic ring attached thereto supporting the packing, and a packing case housing the above. The lip seal is structured to be provided with one or more circumferential grooves 6 on the packing side which contactingly slides with the sleeve outer periphery, and a plurality of longitudinal grooves 7a, 7b communicating with the circumferential groove 6 and the sealed side. Sealing liquid is introduced into the groove parts and pressure distribution between the circumferential groove 6 and the sealed side is substantially uniformized with the sealing pressure.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main shaft water sealing apparatus capable of restraining a water leakage from a runner back pressure chamber with a simple structure not only during the operation of a water turbine but at the start and stop and during a test run.
      SOLUTION: The main shaft water sealing apparatus includes a plurality of seal parts 4 installed at a space in the axial direction of a main shaft 2 at a portion where the main shaft 2 penetrates an upper cover 3; an injection port 21 provided facing the main shaft between the plurality of seal parts; a water intake 19 opened to the runner back pressure chamber 5 where water pressure rises with the rotation of a runner; a water supply pipe 7 connecting the water intake to the injection port; and a water supply tank 9 installed at an intermediate part of the water supply pipe. The water intake is installed in a position where pressure that can pump up water in the runner back pressure chamber during the operation of the water turbine is generated in the runner back pressure chamber, and the water supply tank is installed in a position not lower than the height required to inject, from the injection port by gravity, water of minimum pressure required for sealing the seal part during the operation of the water turbine.
