Each two groups among the six groups of semiconductor packages are teamed to constitute one set, and the sets are functioned as U-phase, V-phase, and W-phase. The six groups of semiconductor package groups are connected with a same P-side DC bus bar and N-side DC bus bar. The P-side bus bar and the N-side bus bar are made to face each other across a thin insulating layer, so that a DC bus bar becomes low inductance. By lowering inductance of the DC bus bar among the U-phase, V-phase, and W-phase, a ripple current of a DC capacitor is reduced.

Normal control is such that a voltage of an excitation circuit becomes a maximum at the BASE speed, and under the constant output control, a terminal voltage increases with increasing rotational speed to maintain the maximum voltage of the excitation circuit until a maximum terminal voltage is applied at the TOP speed. Higher torque control for producing temporary higher torque is such that the terminal voltage becomes the maximum at the BASE speed, and under the constant output control, the voltage of the excitation circuit decreases with increasing rotational speed to maintain the maximum terminal voltage, with the result that an exciting current becomes higher than under the normal control.
