    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the travelling speed of a user with accuracy not varying even in conditions of receiving direct sunlight in the daytime, receiving afternoon sun in the evening, and of a less light amount at night and to constitute a safety device.
      SOLUTION: The travel of users on plane coordinates is measured by laser scan sensors 1a, 1b arranged in the vicinity of an entrance and exit of a passenger conveyor scanning of the laser scanning sensors. When the travelling speed of the users is below a predetermined value, attention attracting announcement is broadcast by a voice synthesizer 11 and speakers 12a, 12b, and in case of a prolonged staying or crowding state of users, the generated frequency and voltage of an inverter device 8 are controlled to lower the speed of a driving motor 9 or to stop the motor.

The sensor-side control unit further computes whether a passenger is on the passenger conveyor by the microcomputer based on the time of the passenger detection, creates a control signal of an operation temporary stop when the computing result indicates no boarding. The sensor-side control unit does not radio-transmit both the control signals of the operation start and operation temporary stop from the transmitting antenna while a passenger is boarded.
