    • PURPOSE: To stabilize the operation of an optical gyroscope while no energy conversion between propagation modes is generated by making the sectional shape of clad or jacket of an optical fiber to be elliptic and determining the refractive index of optical main axis in a core as a specific condition. CONSTITUTION: The sectional shape of clad or jacket of an optical fiber is made elliptic and, when the refractive indexes of main optical axes in a core are set to nx and ny , the radius of an optical fiber coil R0 , and the wavelength of an incident light λ, respectively, the relationship of |nx -ny |>λ/R0 is satisfied. Then, a light from a laser 1 is a linear polarized light wave in a y direction, and its half is directed to one end part 7 of the optical coil through a half mirror 2 and lens 4. In such a case, it is combined in a manner to become coincident with the linear polarized wave face from the laser and the optical main axis y. The other half reaches the other input end 8 through a half mirror 2 and reflection mirror 3, and this case is similar to the combination on the input end 7 and the half is combined with the same main optical axis so as to become the main optical axis y.

    • PURPOSE:A constitutional material for optical fiber transmitting infrared rays, obtained by preparing chalcogenide glass containing Ge, Te, and Al or Ge, Te, and Sb in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:In triangular diagrams showing content ratios of Ge, Te, and Al and Ge, Te, and Sb, glass materials of three components blended to exhibit compositions shown by the oblique lines are sealed in quartz tubes in vacuum, and melted at about 1,000 deg.C for about 10min - several hours, the quartz tubes sealed in vacuum are thrown into liquid nitrogen and cooled. Consequently, chalcogenide glass of material for optical fiber transmitting infrared rays is prepared.
