      SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is provided with an alignment film ORI1 on the surface on a liquid crystal side of at least one substrate SUB2 of respective substrates facing each other across the liquid crystal and an insulating film INS under the alignment layer and an ion adsorbing film IAF is made to intervene between the alignment film and the insulating film. Even when an ionic decomposition product is formed from the liquid crystal and the alignment film by light irradiation, the ionic decomposition product is adsorbed by the ion adsorbing film and reduction of the voltage holding ratio of the liquid crystal can be avoided.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a liquid crystal display device formed with a driving circuit of a small size and low breakdown voltage and a display element on the same substrate. SOLUTION: A circuit to drop a pixel potential is formed aside from the driving circuit for supplying a gradation voltage to a pixel. A signal of positive polarity is written to the pixel electrode and the potential of the pixel electrode is dropped by using a capacitor connected to the pixel electrode after the writing. The voltage to be supplied to the pixel electrode is made positive in polarity with respect to the reference potential of a reference electrode and the signal of negative polarity can be created by controlling a pixel potential control signal. If the signal inverted in the polarity by such method is created, the need for supplying the signal of the reverse polarity from the driving circuit is eliminated, and the formation of a peripheral circuit by the elements of the low breakdown voltage is made possible.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device provided with a dynamic ratioless shift register, which can be operated stably and expand the flexibility of designing. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with a display-drive circuit which includes the shift register on a surface of a substrate, and the shift register is constituted of a transistor, having a semiconductor layer. The transistor includes a gate terminal, a first terminal and a second terminal, a synchronous pulse is input into the first terminal; and when the gate terminal is in the floating state, a voltage of the gate terminal increases, in accordance with the change of the synchronous pulse from low level to high level according to a bootstrap effect. A switching circuit is disposed in between the gate terminal and a constant voltage power source line, a signal that sets the transistor to on-state is inputted, thereby, the switching circuit is set to off-state; and as the result, the bootstrap efficiency of the gate terminal is improved.
