    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication light detecting connector capable of efficiently extracting a part of communication light propagating through an optical transmission line without a complicated assembly work, such as highly accurate alignment of optical axes.SOLUTION: A communication light detecting connector 10 capable of optically connecting between optical transmission lines 11a and the 11b and checking a communication state between the optical transmission lines 11a and 11b includes an optical connection body 14 for optically connecting between the optical transmission lines 11a and the 11b and generating leakage light for checking the communication state. The optical connection body 14 comprises: a core 15 for optically connected to the optical transmission lines 11a and 11b; a clad 16 provided in the surroundings of the core 15; and a light extraction part 17 which is configured by deforming a part of the core 15 in the clad 16. A clad outer diameter D1 of the light extraction part 17 is smaller than a clad outer diameter D2 of the other part.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical splice to be used for splicing of holey fibers.
      SOLUTION: The mechanical splice 1 includes: a V groove substrate 6 that has a V groove 10 for holding and aligning optical fibers 4h, 5 to be spliced by butting them against each other; a pressing substrate 7 that presses the optical fibers 4h, 5 held on the V groove 10; and a clamp spring 8 for clamping the optical fibers 4h, 5 by holding the V groove substrate 6 and the holding substrate 7. In this mechanical splice 1, an optical waveguide member 2 with a hardenable refractive index matching material 3 deposited on one end or both end faces is incorporated in the V groove 10 of the V groove substrate 6.
