    • PURPOSE:To obtain a surface flaw detector for wire rods which is free from disconnection even when the detector is of a contact type, does not require any change even when the diameter of a wire rod varies, and has high detecting sensitivity by supporting the detector with a guide roll and detecting the surface flaw of the wire rod while the front ends of detecting elements are brought into contact with the wire rod under a prescribed pressure. CONSTITUTION:A wire rod 1 is moved at a prescribed speed and each piezoelectric element 3 continuously outputs a constant voltage signal V0 from its front end section 30. When the surface flaw of the wire rod l comes into contact with the element 3, the element 3 is deformed and a stress is generated in the element 3 due to the deformation. Since a fluctuating voltage DELTAV is generated based on the stress, the element outputs a voltage signal of V0+DELTAV. The voltage signal is passed through a filter circuit 4 and, after a noise component is blocked by its frequency, only the band of a frequency (f) is outputted to an amplifier circuit 5. The circuit 5 amplifies the signal V0+DELTAV from which the noise component is removed and outputs the amplified signal to a recorder 8 as the surface flaw measured results of a comparator circuit 7 and each element 3.

    • PURPOSE:To detect degradation without arranging an electrical induction circuit at a sensor section by providing a vibration applying device, a sound sensor, a reference signal comparator, and a device for producing an abnormal signal. CONSTITUTION:The degradation searching device 10 is constructed such that the driving force of traveling pulleys 11, 11' and a motor 16 is transmitted through a rotary shaft 17, a gear 19, a rotary shaft 17', and a gear 20 thus self running the device 10 back and forth, as shown by an arrow, on n wire 1. Then the wire 1 is hit by means of a hammer 12 to produce vibrating sound which is caught by a sound sensor 22 arranged closely to an auxiliary pulley 11'', and a signal is provided from the sound sensor 22 to a detection unit 24. Upon detection of abnormal signal, the detection unit 24 transmits the abnormal signal through a transmitter/receiver 25 and an antenna 25a to a remote operating unit. Since hitting system is employed, the device is not subjected to induction and degradation of inner layer can be detected reliably.
