    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vinyl modified polyester polyol useful as a resin component of coating spoiling no physical properties of a coating film such as abrasion resistance, hardness, weatherability while using a raw material derived from vegetable oil known as carbon neutral. SOLUTION: The vinyl modified polyester polyol is made by combining a polyester polyol (A) obtained using the raw material derived from vegetable oil and a vinyl polymer part (B); wherein the component ratio of the polyester polyol (A) and the vinyl polymer part (B) in weight ratio is (A):(B)=20:80 to 80:20, the raw material derived from vegetable oil and contained in the vinyl modified polyester polyol is 20-80 wt.% of the nonvolatile matter in the vinyl modified polyester polyol, a hydroxyl value of the polyester polyol (A) is 40-300, a hydroxyl value of the vinyl polymer part (B) is 10-300 and a glass transition point of the vinyl polymer part (B) is 20-150°C.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin for dispersing pigments, which, the one usable for a wide range of inks and coating materials, is improved in dispersibility to pigments, solubility to solvents and compatibility with various binder resins.
      SOLUTION: The resin for dispersing pigments has as an effective component a copolymer (A) obtained by polymerizing (1) a (meth) acrylate having a saturated alicyclic group consisting of two or more rings, (2) a 10C-35C alkyl ester of a (meth)acrylic acid, and (3) a monomer having a functional group such as a hydroxyl group and a carboxyl group. The content of the constituent monomer (1) is 5-60 wt.%, that of the monomer (2) is 5-50%, and the one of the monomer (3) is 0.1-30 wt.%. In this resin, since the type and the composition ratios of the monomers (1)-(3) are specified, particularly, in such a manner as the upper limit of the monomer (1) content is not increased much and the upper limit of the monomer (3) content is restrained low, the resin excels in solubility to solvents and compatibility with various binder resins.
