    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rosin-modified phenol resin which attains both oxidation stability and drying characteristics after printing.
      SOLUTION: There is provided an oxidation stable rosin-modified phenol resin produced by the reaction of a rosin (a), a resol-type phenolic resin (b) and a polyol (c), in which the components (a) to (c) are allowed to react in the presence of a specific organic sulfur compound (d) such as 4,4'-bis(6-t-butyl metacresol) sulfide, and the amount of the organic sulfur compound added is 0.01-3.0 wt.% relative to the rosin (a). By performing the production under the condition that a specific organic sulfur compound is present in an appropriate amount, disproportionation reaction of the rosin is promoted, and a rosin-modified phenol resin excellent in oxidation stability and satisfactory in drying characteristics after printing is obtained.
