    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flocculant composition and a flocculation method by which a COD value is lowered and decolorization is carried out for dye wastewater within a short time and in a fewer number of treatment steps.SOLUTION: The flocculant composition includes a component derived from Abelmoschus of Malvaceae, an inorganic flocculant, a pH adjustment agent, activated carbon, and a polymer flocculant. In addition, if necessary, an inorganic adsorption assisting agent such as a zeolite or the like may be added. The order to be added may be properly changed in accordance with the state of the dye wastewater. For example, in a non-threne-based dye wastewater, it is preferable to carry out the treatment by steps of adding the component derived from Abelmoschus of Malvaceae, the flocculant component, the pH adjustment agent, activated carbon, and the polymer flocculant in this order or by steps of adding the component derived from Abelmoschus of Malvaceae, the pH adjustment agent, the flocculant component, activated carbon, and the polymer flocculant in this order. The activated carbon loading may be also properly changed in accordance with the state of the dye wastewater.
