    • PURPOSE:To obtain the titled member in which weak point in material quality at boundary part between base body metal layer and strengthened composite layer is dissolved, by strengthening a desired metal member compositedly, with fiber compact having low fiber vol. ratio prepd. by using powder having the same compsn. as base layer, or that made of the main component. CONSTITUTION:Inorganic fiber such as SiC fiber (0.1-1mu), C fiber (6-7mu), and powder having the same compsn. as base metal layer to be strengthened compositedly or made of the main component are mixed, then compacted. In this case, particle diameter of the powder must be 1-20 times as much as that of inorganic fiber. If the base metal layer is Al base alloy, Al alloy powder or pure Al powder is used as the powder.     • PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of production by combining a fiber preform by pressure casting to a matrix metal, then heating the casting to the m.p. of the matrix metal or above and melting away the excess metal part. CONSTITUTION:The fiber preform 10 formed to a product shape is disposed into a lower metallic mold 12 and a molten metal 16 is poured into the mold. The molten metal 16 is pressurized by an upper metallic mold 14. The molten metal 16 advances into the spacings among the fibers of the preform 10 and are combined to form a cast material 18. The cast material 18 is charged into a heating furnace and is heated to the m.p. of the material 18 or above, then the excess metal parts of the inside and outside layers except the combined layer melt and fall into a receiving vessel 20. The fiber-reinforced metallic member 22 having a cylindrical shape which is the product shape is thus obtd. Since the use of a casting metal having a simple hole shape is made possible by the above-mentioned method, the cost of casting manufacture is reduced and the cost of production is reduced.
