    • PURPOSE:To secure a sufficient compression ratio, by installing a cylinder part to be interconnected to a combustion chamber, in a cylinder head, and controlling the piston fitted slidably in this cylinder part so as to make the combustion chamber capacity smaller at the time of low load. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder part 21 to be interconnected to a combustion chamber 13 is installed in a cylinder head 5, and a piston 22 is slidably fitted in this cylinder part. The piston 22 is driven by feed or discharge of pressure oil for pressure starting chambers 25 and 26 at the upper part. And, engine load is detected, whereby the piston 22 is driven upward so as to make combustion chamber capacity inside the cylinder part 21 larger in a high load manner, but in a low load manner, the piston 22 is driven downward so as to make this combustion chamber capacity smaller. With this constitution, combustion of an air-fuel mixture is favorably performable without entailing any drop in an effective compression ratio even at the time of low load.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate biting between the opening part of a cylinder and a piston ring, by forming specific curved surfaces at each stepped joint end of the piston ring. CONSTITUTION:In overlapped parts 8a, 8b in a stepped joint part 7 of a piston ring having a thickness thicker than that of a conventional one, parts 11a, 11b extending from their end parts 9a, 9b to the outer peripheral surfaces 10a, 10b of the piston ring, are formed in the shape of arcuate convex curved surface having a radius R1 as viewed from the sliding direction of the piston 4. Further, parts 13a, 13b extending from the outer peripheral surfaces 10a, 10b to the end faces 12a, 12b of the ring are formed with arcuate convex curved surfaces having a radius of R2 as viewed form the peripheral direction of the ring 6. After the ring 6 is fitted in a fitting groove 5 of the piston 4, the overlapping parts 8a, 8b are not caughted to the upper and lower edges of a secondary air supply opening part 3 when the joint part 7 is contacted to the edges of the opening parts 3, thereby the biting between the piston 4 and the cylinder 2 may be reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the trapping of gas by increasing the flow rate of mixed gas in medium and low speed regions by providing a negative pressure responding part whose top portion is positioned in a suction pathway to the wall of a suction pipe on the downstream side of a throttle valve. CONSTITUTION:On the upper wall portion positioned nearly the center of a suction pipe 3, a negative pressure responding valve 5 is provided in such a way that its top portion 5a is positioned in a suction pathway 4. In a low-speed roration region or partially negative condition where a throttle valve 2 is closed, a difference in suction negative pressures is produced between the upstream and downstream sides of the throttle valve 2 in the suction pathway 4 according to the degree of opening of the throttle valve 2, whereupon according to the difference in the negative pressures, the top portion 5a of the negative pressure responding valve is projected into the suction pathway 4. Thus, the cross section and volume of the suction pathway which are adaptable to the low-speed rotation region or partially negative condition can be obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To cause inhalation and exhalation into and out of a crankcase through a breather passage, by forming an oil separation chamber at the upper part of the crankcase so that the chamber adjoins the rear wall of a cylinder block and communicates with the crankcase and by providing the breather passage opened into the top of the oil separation chamber and located in the rear wall of the cylinder block. CONSTITUTION:An oil separation chamber 19 is formed at the upper part of a transmission chamber 7 so that the oil separation chamber adjoins the rear wall 3a of a rear cylinder block 3 and a dividing wall 17. The dividing wall 17 is provided with a plurality of holes 20 for connecting the oil separation chamber 19 to a clutch chamber 8. A breather passage 21 is opened into the top 19a of the chamber 19 at its central part in the opposite direction to the holes 20. The breather passage 21 extends through the rear wall 3a of the cylinder block 3 and communicates with a breather pipe coupling tube 22 protruded from the rear of a cylinder head 5.
