    • PURPOSE:To prevent decrease in responsiveness of feedbacking by setting a control parameter to a specified value when an output duty ratio to an intake control valve is maximum, and a relation in intensity between a real current and target current flowing to a solenoid coil is inverted. CONSTITUTION:A target current for adjusting an intake control valve V to a specified opening from an operational condition of an internal combustion engine E is calculated, a standard duty ratio corresponding to the target current is calculated so as to determine an output duty ratio DOUT from the standard duty ratio and specified control parameter. Current feedback control which increases and decreases the control parameter, that is, the output duty ratio DOUT is performed based on the difference between a real current IACT and the target current which passes through a solenoid coil S so that the real current IACT is collected to the target current. In this case, when the output duty ratio DOUT becomes 100%, and the intensity of the real current IACT and the target current is inverted the control parameter is set to a specified value. Consequently, the overshoot of the real current IACT is prevented so as to improve responsiveness of current feedback control.

    • PURPOSE:To accurately detect failures in an exhaust air circulation control system in either transition or normal operations by judging that the exhaust air circulation control system is at fault when the deviation of the actual value of valve opening from a target value of valve opening is equal to or more than a specified value in response to engine operations. CONSTITUTION:An EGR valve 16 is provided with a valve opening sensor 26, the valve opening sensor 26 detects the operating position of the valve body 18 of the EGR valve 16 so as to forward the detected signal to an ECU 5. The ECU 5 judges whether or not the value of an output signal from the valve opening sensor 26 is abnormal, and concurrently judges the operating conditions of an engine 1 based on the detected signals from various sensors such as a thetaTH sensor 4, a PBA sensor 7, a TW sensor 8, a Ne sensor 9, an O2 sensor 12 and a PA sensor 13, so that the target value of valve opening of the EGR valve 146 in response to the result of the judgement is operated so as to be set up. And when the deviation of the actual value of valve opening from the target value of valve opening is equal to or more than a specified value in response to engine operations, it is thereby judged that an exhaust air circulation control system is at fault.
