    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tailstock for a cylinder grinding machine, capable of simply changing over its function between a fixed center and a rotation center. SOLUTION: The tailstock for a cylinder grinding machine, grinding the outer circumferential surface of an axial work such as a cam shaft W, is provided with a center 41 supported to a ram 23 provided for a body housing 22 by way of ball bearings 43 through 46 so as to be freely rotated. A lock pin 61 connected with a piston 62 is disposed behind the center 41 so as not to be rotated but to be freely advanced/retreated, and is formed into a projected part 472 capable of being engaged with the rear end of a mutually opposite center axial part 47 and the front end of the lock pin 61, and into a recessed part 612. When hydraulic pressure is applied to an oil chamber 63 in front of the piston 62, the lock pin 61 is moved backward so as to enable the center 41 to be freely rotated. When hydraulic pressure is applied to an oil chamber 64 in the rear of the piston, the lock pin 61 is moved forward so as to be engaged with the center 41, so that the center 41 is fixed so as not to be rotated.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a maintenance property by simply exchange a grinding stone by providing a pair of pins on a tail end of a holder and providing a pair of pin holes for inserting both pins to a slide bar and a ball plunger engaged with a groove portion formed on a periphery surface of a pin. SOLUTION: A pair of long and short pins 732, 733 are provided on a tail end of a holder 730 and a pair of long and short pin holes 734, 735 for inserting both pins 732, 733 are formed on a slide bar 72. A ball plunger 736 engaged with a groove portion 732a formed on a periphery surface of a pin is provided on the slide bar 72. Thereby, if both pins 732, 733 are inserted to both pin holes 734, 735, a holder 730, i.e., a grinding stone 73 is whirl-stopped on the slide bar 72 and can be mounted at a removal-stopping state by a ball plunger 736. When the holder 730 is pulled by some degree or more force, an engagement of a ball plunger 736 against a groove portion 732a and the grinding stone 73 can be removed from the slide bar 72.

The work chuck means 52 has a chuck part 61 connected through a ball 59 to a piston 58a of a cylinder 58 for a work clamp, and chucks a work W by expanding the chuck part 61 by actuation of the cylinder 58.

Also, the grinding wheel spindle head 15 is mounted to the slide table 12 with the posture inclined forward downward. Thus, the height of the grinding wheel 18 is reduced, the vertical distance between the action line of the grinding reaction and the axis of the ball screw mechanism 11 is shortened and the vertically inclining moment acting on the slide table 12 is reduced.

      SOLUTION: A cylindrical body 30 is detachably fitted to a rotary body 20 as a major part of a headstock. The cylindrical body 30 has a collet 31, the center shaft 34, and a cylindrical sleeve 33. A recessed engagement part 34 is formed at the end of the cylindrical sleeve 33. A positioning part extending from a bar-like workpiece is fitted to the engagement part 34. Therefore, the center shaft can be replaced by merely replacing the cylindrical body. A setup operation is thereby quickly performed, and a working efficiency is increased.
