    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to assemble a basket easily in a short time and manufacture it at low costs by fixing assemblies of square-tube materials with support members. SOLUTION: A basket consists of square-tube assemblies 14 made by stacking square-tube materials 12 for forming storing chambers 16A into which spent fuel rod assemblies can be inserted so that the faces of the materials can fit each other, support members 15A to 15C to fix the square-tube materials 12 by covering the outer circumferences of the square-tube assemblies 14, upper plates which are installed on the upper faces of the support members 15A to 15C and where each of the inserting holes is so formed as to communicate with the square-tube materials 12 and a bottom plate installed on the lower face of the support members 15A to 15C. Therefore, the basket can be easily assembled in a short time by fixing with the support members 15A to 15C the assemblies 14 of the square-tube materials whose inner spaces are used as storing chambers, and the highly precise molding of the square tubes is all required to enables the highly precise and low-cost manufacture of the basket.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid welding of bottom plate and bottom flange of a spent fuel storage vessel. SOLUTION: A vessel is constituted of a vessel body 2 having an inner cylinder 3 and a middle cylinder 4 and a bottom plate 14 closing the lower end of the vessel body 2, a shield member storage space 7 is formed between the inner cylinder 3 and the middle cylinder 4. The bottom plate 14 is constituted of a bottom plate main body 14a welded to the lower end of the inner cylinder 3 and a flange 14b formed in one at the periphery of the bottom plate main body 14a and closing the lower end of the shield member storage space 7. The outer surface of the flange part 14b is welded to the lower end of the middle cylinder 4 and an opening connecting to the inside of the shield member storage space 7 is formed on the flange 14b from outside. After casting lead shield member 6 from the opening in the shield member storage space 7, a closing plug 20 is welded on the flange 14b to close the opening.
