SOLUTION: The circular flow aerator includes: an aeration tank 2 to store water to be treated to which the carriers holding microorganisms are added; diffuser pipes 3 which are arranged in the aeration tank 2, blow off fine air bubbles and produce the circulating flow of the water to be treated in the aeration tank 2 by an airlift effect caused by the fine air bubbles; and guide plates 10 which are provided below the diffuser pipes 3 and prevents the collision of the upward flow of the water to be treated to the diffuser pipes 3.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve water quality of treated water by an apparatus wherein an aeration means for forming an aeration phase on the upper part of a deep tank type bioreactor and a circulation means for forming a static water phase between a carrier expansion phase formed in the lower part of the bioreactor and wherein a carrier carrying microorganism floats up slightly and an aeration phase are installed. SOLUTION: After waste water flowing into a bioreactor 16 is sufficiently aerated in an aeration phase 42 by means of an aeration device 18, it is lowered as a downward stream in a communication pipe 26 and is delivered to the bottom part of the bioreactor 16. The waste water delivered to the bottom part of this bioreactor 16 is elevated as a up-blow in the bioreactor 16 and by keeping linear velocity when it passes through a carrier expansion phase 46 formed on the lower part of the bioreactor 16 at 0.5-7cm/sec, a static water phase 48 with a flow velocity at which the carrier 14 can enough naturally settle is formed in the water region on the top side of the carrier expansion phase 46. In addition, aerobic atmospheres are formed in the upper part and the lower part of the bioreactor 16 and BOD ingredient and ammoniacal nitrogen are mainly nitrification-treated respectively in the aeration phase 42 and the carrier expansion phase 46.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject carrier high in nitrogen removal and wear resistance, by mixing activated sludge with fine powder of a metal oxide, allowing the mixture to stand for a fixed time to give a mixed solution, suspending the solution in a gel raw material solution and gelatinizing the suspension to include a microorganism in a hydrous gel of a polymer. SOLUTION: Concentrated activated sludge is mixed with fine powder of a metal oxide (e.g. fly ash) comprising iron oxide or silicon oxide having 5-40μm average particle diameter to prepare a mixed solution. The mixed solution is allowed to stand for 1-2 hours, is added to a raw material solution of gel comprising a polyethylene glycol prepolymer and N,N,N',N'- tetramethylethylenediamine as a polymerizing agent and suspended to give a suspension. Then the suspension is mixed with a potassium persulfate as a polymerization initiator, immediately cast into a vinyl chloride tube having 3mm inner diameter, allowed to stand for 10 minutes at 20 deg.C and gelatinized. The prepared rodlike cylindrical material is cut in 3mm length into a pellet state to give the objective included immobilized carrier in which a microorganism is included and immobilized to a hydrous gel of a polymer.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biological waste water treating device which is equipped with a carrier outflow preventive device for separating carriers without using a screen and is capable of drastically lessening maintenance and inspection and improving treatment efficiency. SOLUTION: The suspending activated sludge and carriers 24 which are entrained in a nitrifying liquid and flowing out into an accepting vessel 48 from a nitrifying vessel 26 are lowered by a descending flow passage 54 and is admitted into a separating chamber 56. The carriers 24 are settled and separated from the suspending activated sludge by utilizing the difference in the sp. gr. between the suspending activated sludge and the carriers 24 in the separating chamber 24. The carriers 24 settling on the bottom of the separating chamber 56 returns to the nitrifying vessel 26 by riding the flow of a water feed pipe 58 which takes-in the lower liquid in the separating chamber 56 and feeding the water to the nitrifying vessel 26. At this time, the flow of the water feed pipe 58 is formed by an air lift and, therefore, the destruction of the carriers 24 does not arise. Besides, the suspending activated sludge is returned to a denitrifying vessel by a nitrifying liquid circulating path 16 for circulating the upper layer liquid of the separating chamber 56 to the denitrifying vessel and is sent to a sludge settling vessel via a trough 70 for allowing the overflow of the treated water.
