    • PURPOSE:To easily produce a hardened piston ring made of steel of high hardness under superior dimensional and shape accuracy by heating a wirelike or striplike steel material and forming the same to a piston ring shape, then immediately hardening and tempering, the same. CONSTITUTION:A steel material being a blank material for piston rings is formed to a strip shape by drawing or roll forming and is heated to a temperature higher than the hardening temperature of this steel material. Next, it is put in a ring forming machine and is thereby formed to a piston ring shape. It is mechanically restrained and held in that state and is then quenched by oil, water, etc. whereby it is hardened. Since the material is formed to a piston ring shape and is quenched and hardened in that state without being removed from the device, it is hardened without giving any change in its shape and after it has been subjected to necessary working, it is fixed in jigs and is hardened. These obviate the production of any strain in shape owing to hardening and tempering and enable the hardened piston ring of steel of superior dimensional and shape accuracy to be produced.

    • PURPOSE:To drastically decrease the influence of the pseudo gap at the boundary between magnetic cores and ferromagnetic metallic thin films by forming the joint surfaces between the ferromagnetic metallic alloy films and the ferrite cores as passive surfaces. CONSTITUTION:The I core 5 and the C core 6 are separately formed by using Mn-Zn ferrite and Cr is sputtered to 50 to 150Angstrom thickness on the joint surface of the I core 5 with a sputtering device. The O and Cr in the ferrite react and Cr2O3 is thereby partly formed. An Fe-Al-Si alloy layer is formed to 1 to 5mum thickness on the Cr layer in a nonoxidative atmosphere. This Cr is diffused into the Fe-Al-Si layer by a heat treatment to annihilate the Cr layer. The Fe-Al-Si layer 9 contg. the Cr is thereby brought into direct contact with the Cr oxide layer 12. This I core 5 is bonded by glass 7 to the C core 6. The glass having the softening point higher than the softening point used for fixing the magnetic head to a slider is used for this glass 7. The influence of the pseudo gap at the boundary between the magnetic cores and the metallic thin films is drastically decreased by the diffusion and annihilation of the Cr thin films.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the yield of products by working a striplike annealed steel blank material into a ring shape, heating the same to a hardening temp., and plastically screwing down the shape while quickly cooling the same by means of dies at the time of producing a hardened piston ring made of steel. CONSTITUTION:A striplike steel material made by rolling or drawing is annealed to soften, and is hot- or cold-worked to a piston ring shape. Next, the work 1 is heated to a hardening temp., after which it is placed on a female die 4, and a male die 3 is put thereon. While it is quickly cooled by a middle die 2 at above the temp. at which martensite transformation initiates, it is screwed down in an arrow direction, whereby it is plastically screwed down and straightened to have the roundness and flatness of a ring; at the same time, it is hardened, whereby the piston ring of high hardness, high strength and a correct shape is produced at a high yield.

    • PURPOSE: To produce a piston of high hardness, high strength and very little strain by forming material steel into a spiral ringform, subsequently applying plastic reformation through cold working by means of a metal mould, and later heat treatment.
      CONSTITUTION: Line-like or belt-like steel material, annealed after drawing or rolling, is formed into a ringtform through cold or hot working. Formed ring materials 1 are placed on a lower mould 4, covered by an upper mould 3, and pressed down by a middle mould 2 in the direction of an arrow for reforming. Subsequently, in case of salt heating, the ring materials 1 are suspended by a jig, while in case of heating by an electric furnace and the like, the materials 1 are piled up on a tray 5 and subjected to heat treatment such as hardening, tempering and the like.
