    • PURPOSE:To obtain a rare-earth/iron permanent magnet having excellent magnetic characteristics by a method wherein the particle-size distribution of permanent magnet raw material powder is grasped, and the conditions of pulverization and classification to obtain the desirable grain-size distribution as a permanent magnet are set based on the above-mentioned distribution. CONSTITUTION:Permanent magnet raw material fine powder, which is mainly composed of iron and a rare-earth element, is used as a starting raw material, and a rare-earth/ iron permanent magnet is manufactured by a powder metallurgic device. In this case, the permanent magnet raw material fine powder is oxidized at the temperature at which each grain of the fine powder is maintained with one another in a non-fixed state under oxygen-containing atmosphere. Then, the fine powder is dispersed through a dispersing device. In this case, permanent raw material fine powder, having the following values measured by a Coulter counter or a Coulter multisizer at the above- mentioned state of dispersion, is used. The above-mentioned values of volumetric distribution percentages are 0.1wt.% for grains of 0.6mum or smaller, 1.0vol.% or less for grains of 25mum or larger, and average grain diameter is 10mum or smaller, for example. As a result, the pulverization and classification conditions in order to obtain a desirable particle-size distribution can be set.
