摘要： PURPOSE:To make highly efficient cutting of rare earth permanent magnets possible by fixing a rare earth permanent magnet on a base, followed by using a disc cutter to cut the rare earth permanent magnet with a voltage applied between the cutter and the base. CONSTITUTION:On a surface plate 4 made of metal a base 5 made of material having electric conductivity and dressing function is clamped. On this base 5, a rare earth permanent magnet 6 to be cut is fixed, followed by using a freely rotatable disc cutter 2 to cut the rare earth permanent magnet 6 with a voltage applied between the cutter 2 and the base 5. With the above configuration, an electrically conductive circuit is formed between the cutter 2, the rare earth permanent magnet 6, and the base 5 and hence a pulse current flows securely, so that this pulse current enables the cutter 2 to continuously carry out dressing, thus being able to cut the rare earth permanent magnet highly efficiently.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain a rare-earth/iron permanent magnet having excellent magnetic characteristics by a method wherein the particle-size distribution of permanent magnet raw material powder is grasped, and the conditions of pulverization and classification to obtain the desirable grain-size distribution as a permanent magnet are set based on the above-mentioned distribution. CONSTITUTION:Permanent magnet raw material fine powder, which is mainly composed of iron and a rare-earth element, is used as a starting raw material, and a rare-earth/ iron permanent magnet is manufactured by a powder metallurgic device. In this case, the permanent magnet raw material fine powder is oxidized at the temperature at which each grain of the fine powder is maintained with one another in a non-fixed state under oxygen-containing atmosphere. Then, the fine powder is dispersed through a dispersing device. In this case, permanent raw material fine powder, having the following values measured by a Coulter counter or a Coulter multisizer at the above- mentioned state of dispersion, is used. The above-mentioned values of volumetric distribution percentages are 0.1wt.% for grains of 0.6mum or smaller, 1.0vol.% or less for grains of 25mum or larger, and average grain diameter is 10mum or smaller, for example. As a result, the pulverization and classification conditions in order to obtain a desirable particle-size distribution can be set.

Moreover, a block 8 composed of the material having a dressing action is fixed to the end face of a powder metallurgical product 6 crossed with the plane including the cut face by the cutter 2, namely onto the substrate 5 at the vicinity of the end face to be cut. Consequently, the dressing of the cutter 2 can be executed automatically by this block 8 each time of cutting, and the clogging of the cutter 2 can be prevented.
