    • PURPOSE:To manufacture a raw material for a rare earth permanent magnet excellent in magnetic properties at a low cost by heating and reducing a material constituted of the oxides of rare earth elements and the oxides of specified elements, thereafter washing the material, subjecting it to pulverizing, compacting and sintering and executing its componental regulation. CONSTITUTION:A material constituted of the oxides of rare earth elements R (where R denotes one or more kinds among La, Ce, Pr Nd, Sm or the like) and the oxides of elements M (where M denotes one or more kinds among Co, Fe, Ni, Mo, Cu or the like) is mixed with a reducing agent such as metallic Ca and metallic Mg, and this mixture is heated and reduced to form an RM series alloy. This RM series alloy is thereafter washed to remove CaO, MgO or the like which are reaction by-products. Next, the RM alloy is pulverized and is compacted, and this green compact is sintered in the atmosphere of an inert gas or in vacuum. After that, this sintered body is added to a molten metal constituted of R and/or M blended so as to form an RM series alloy having prescribed components including R and M in the sintered body, which is melted to manufacture an RM series alloy having prescribed components. In this way, the rare earth permanent magnet satisfactorily maintaining the magnetic properties of its own can be obtd. at a low cost.

    • PURPOSE:To easily obtain anisotropic magnetic characteristics as well as to manufacture the magnet to be used in the magnetic circuit such as a magnetron, a speaker and the like by a method wherein a press work is performed in such a manner that the density of magnetic flux on one punch surface is made higher than that of the other punch surface by adding magnetic field in molding space in the direction of compression. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic powder 4 is filled in the space formed by the dies 1 made of a non-magnetic material or the material having low permeability, the upper punch 2 and the lower punch 3, at least a part or more of which is made of ferromagnetic material. A coil 5, on which a magnetic field 6 is applied in the direction as shown by the arrow in the diagram, is arranged in the above-mentioned magnetic space. Magnetic space is formed in such a manner that the magnetic flux density on the surface of one punch 3 is made higher than the magnetic flux density on the surface of the other punch 2, and a press work is performed by adding magnetic field to the magnetic space in the direction of compression. An anisotropic magnet having excellent anisotropic characteristics can be manufactured easily by performing the above- mentioned processing method.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain the rare earth permanent magnet alloy excellent in magnetic permeability barely containing impurities, by remelting scraps formed on and after the step of sintering the magnet alloy of rare earth metals in the atmosphere of inert gas or the like.
      CONSTITUTION: In the process of manufacturing the magnet alloy of rare earth metals represented by R
      1 CO
      5 or R
      2 CO
      17 (wherein R is one or more of rare earth metals including Y), scraps formed on and after the step of sintering are recovered. Said scraps are finely crushed, formed in a magnetic field and then remelted in the atmosphere of inert gas or a substantially vacuum atmosphere. By this treatment, various oxides based on the oxides of rare earth elements contained in the scraps are removed together with C and a part of formed carbides. Consequently, the scraps can be regenerated into the permanent magnet alloy of rare earth metals having the same level of a magnetic property as that of a product manufactured in an ordinary process.

Dy and excellent in magnetic properties at low cost by manufacturing a Dy-Fe alloy by the use of Dy2O3, Fe and metallic Ca as a raw material, pulverizing this alloy, thereafter compacting and sintering it, successively adding the alloy to a molten metal contg. rare earth elements and other specified elements, melting it and executing solidification. CONSTITUTION:The powder of Dy2O3 and Fe is mixed with metallic Ca as a reducing agent, and this mixture is heated in an Ar atmosphere to reduce Dy2O3 by Ca and to manufacture a Dy-Fe series alloy. This alloy is finely pulverized and is thereafter compacted, and the obtd. green compact is sintered in the atmosphere of an inert gas or a reducing gas or in vacuum. On the other hand, the molten metal of an alloy in which one or more kinds among Sc, Y and lanthanoide series elements and other specified elements are melted by an other apparatus is mixed with the above sintered body, and the mixture is heated and melted. The raw material for a rare earth permanent magnet contg. no CaO as a reducing product and excellent in magnetic properties such as coercive force, residual magnetic flux density and maximum energy product can be manufactured at a low cost.
