摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the reactive current of an optical element by forming a current/voltage impressing electrode structure in the partial area of an optical waveguide and an insulating part in a buffer layer, a clad layer, or both of the buffer and clad layers positioned in a light beam spot transforming area. SOLUTION: After a silicon oxide film 106 is formed on the whole surface of a substrate 102, proton implanted areas 107 are formed in a waveguide area having a uniform film thickness and a thick tapered area except parts of about 50μm in thickness by implanting protons into a clad layer 104 through ion implantation by using a photoresist as a masking material. After removing the photoresist mask, silicon oxide films 106 which are formed on the ridge waveguide and into which the protons are not implanted are removed. Then an upper electrode 108 is formed by using an oblique vapor deposition method so that electrodes may be formed on the side walls of the ridge. Electrode windows are formed only in the parts which do not contains implanted protons. The reactive current of a waveguide type optical element can be reduced by providing the proton-implanted areas in no-current injected areas.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-control element which does not need a wavelength filter and is able to perform wavelength-conversion of signal light in the same wavelength, and has a high-speed wavelength conversion function. SOLUTION: A wavelength converter circuit of the light-control element is provided with a phase modulator 115 with a filter. Moreover, the lengths of SOAs (semiconductor optical amplifier) 101, 102 provided in the phase modulator with a filter are optimized, and the SOA lengths LSOA are set so that tr is smaller than Δτ. Thus, this eliminates the need for installing the wavelength filter at the output side port 111 in order to perform separation between input signal light and wavelength-to be converted light, and the light control element capable of converting wavelengths can be provided even in the case that the wavelengths λi , λj of the input signal light and the wavelength-to be converted light are the same, and a high-speed and high extinction ratio light control element capable of operating filter-free wavelength-conversion can be provided.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove instability caused by oscillation by avoiding the going around of the same wavelength by using a wavelength transducer, to realize miniaturization and integration, and to provide an optical packet buffer which can deal with also the packet with an arbitrary length. SOLUTION: Signal light from an optical waveguide 103 for input and signal light from a delay loop optical waveguide 102 are multiplexed with an optical coupler 109, are inputted in an array waveguide grating 105 for optical demultiplexing to be branched. Signal light is then outputted to a prescribed output port according to the wavelength of signal light, and is inputted in each wavelength transducer 101a-d. The wavelength of each signal light is transformed into a first wavelength or second wavelength by each wavelength transducer, and the signal light from each wavelength transducer is multiplexed by an array waveguide grating 106 for optical multiplexing. The signal light of the first wavelength is outputted to the delay loop optical waveguide 102, and the signal light of the second wavelength is outputted to the optical waveguide 104 for output.

The positional relation between the semiconductor laser 11 and the Si substrate 14 is obtained from the apex positions, alignment is performed between them, and the semiconductor laser 11 and the substrate 14 are optically combined.

Impressed voltages are applied to electrodes 19 added in the Fabry-Perot resonator array to change the refractive indices of the waveguides by an electro-optical effect, by which the filtering is executed. The filtered light signals are taken out of a fiber array 16.

Thus, an interference signal of the light circulated by predetermined number of times through the one optical path and the light propagated through the other optical path is selectively measured thereby to increase an optical-path length difference and to stably measure it.

摘要： PURPOSE:To efficiently amplify a short light pulse without changing the pulse time width thereof, by determining the length of an optical fiber for amplification to a particular length. CONSTITUTION:In a light amplifier, a short light pulse signal incident through an optical connector from an optical waveguide path 9a side is amplified in an optical fiber for amplification 4 to a desired level, and output through an optical isolator 11 and an optical connector. Expansion of the pulse time width or disturbance of the pulse waveform basically occurs in proportion with the propagation length. By setting the length of the optical fiber for amplification 4 to 1m or less when amplifying a short light pulse, the core structure can be changed in the range of a very small wavelength-dispersion. As a result, the core diameter can be made small to increase the gain coefficient, whereby the short light pulse can be efficiently amplified with little change in the pulse time width thereof.

At this time, the generated modulation waves can be amplified in the resonator to be formed into optical pulse trains.
