    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a flaw detection method by which the evaluation of the defects and the judgement of the kind can be easily performed by utilizing the polarization phenomenon in the angle ultrasonic wave flaw detection by 'straddle scanning', and checking the change of the sensitivity in a case when the polarization axes of a transmitter and a receiver are relatively changed. SOLUTION: A SV wave vibrating in the direction vertical to a plane of incidence of the ultrasonic wave is transmitted by a transmitter 6, and the SH wave vibrating in the direction horizontal to the plane of incidence of the ultrasonic wave is received by a receiver 7 to detect the flat defect 4a by the ultrasonic wave angle beam method by 'straddle scanning method' with an angle of refraction of 45 deg. and a straddle angle of 70 deg.. On this occasion, the SV wave reflected by the flat defect 4a is polarized by 90 deg. and converted into the SH wave, so that it can be efficiently received by the receiver 7. In a case when a spherical defect 4b is detected by the same method, the SV wave reflected by the flat defect 4a is not polarized, so that the SH wave can not be detected by the receiver 7. Accordingly the evaluation of the defect properties and the judgement of the kind can be performed by two kinds of flaw detections and checking the relative change of the defect detecting sensitivity in both flaw detections.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method whereby a flaw detection for a fillet weld part can be more easily conducted and the internal defect can be detected, evaluated by carrying out the flaw detection by utilizing a transversal wave generated from a creeping wave probe and a secondary creeping wave generated through a mode transform of the transversal wave at the bottom face. SOLUTION: When an ultrasonic wave is inputted to a fillet weld part 3 by a creeping wave probe (referred to as a probe hereinafter), a part of the wave is turned to a secondary creeping wave 4c through a mode transform from a transversal wave 4b at the bottom face and reflected by an incomplete penetration corner part. The reflected ultrasonic wave is received by the probe 1, amplified and detected by an ultrasonic flaw detector 18 and sent to a data- collecting/processing apparatus 19. The probe 1 is pressed by a driving apparatus 17 to a piping flaw detect face to scan a piping joint in the whole circumferential and axial directions. The collected data are processed by the data-collecting/ processing apparatus 19 after the flaw detection is completed. The data are analyzed on the basis of a detection echo and a position of the probe when detecting the defect. A state of the defect is judged and a fatigue fracture or the like is analyzed for the progress direction.

    • PURPOSE:To favorably detect a flaw not only on a flat part of the surface of an article to be inspected but also an irregular part by vertically sliding an ultrasonic probe and by pressing the probe on the surface of the article to be inspected. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic probe 2 is held on a unit with a cover 4 and a holder 6, and repulsion by compression of a spring 3 provided between a spring receiver 7 and the cover 4 of the probe 2 presses the probe 2 onto an article to be inspected 1 so that it follows the irregularity of the article to be inspected 1. A supply port 1 facilitates inflow and holding by a groove 10 of a contact medium led to the neighborhood of the probe 2, a key 5 stops rotation of the probe 2 in the radial direction with combination with a key way of the holder 6 and enables vertical sliding. Also, a shoe 9 whose contact face is machined according to the piping diameter of the article to be inspected 1 facilitates mounting on the piping. Thus, the probe 2 is made into a unit, and a pressing force, inclination of the contact face and contact medium supply amount can be made as prescribed by pressing with the spring, etc., and then, ultrasonic flaw detection can be done favorably even on the irregular face of the article to be inspected 1.

    • PURPOSE:To achieve a flaw detection by vertical and skew beams simultaneously, by arranging vibrators in a double split structure so that the vibrators are used as divided in two for vertical beam operation while two vibrators sandwiching a sound shielding plate are electrically connected in parallel to create a single detection characteristic for angle beam operation. CONSTITUTION:Vibrators 3-8 are arranged in a double split structure. For angle beam operation, two each of vibrators 5, 6, 7 and 8 are electrically connected together in parallel to create a single detection characteristic with simultaneous transmission and reception. For vertical beam operation, the vibrators 3 and 4 are normally divided into two pairs, one for transmission as vibrator 3 and the other for reception as vibrator 4. Sound fields of the vibrators 5-8 for angle beam operation are synthesized when the two vibrators are vibrated individually. The vibrators are arranged at the center as much as possible and the range thereof is adjusted to a proper value according to the frequency of the vibrators. When one vibrator is excited, directivity is regulated to an appropriate expanse thereby optimizing the directivity of a synthetic sound field when two vibrators are excited.

    • PURPOSE:To accurately perform flaw detection by scanning a probe while profiling a surface to be inspected which consists of a curved surface part and plane parts, and calculating the position of the probe from the angle of rotation of the probe and the shape parameter of the surface to be inspected at this time. CONSTITUTION:The surface to be inspected which consists of the plane parts 6 and 8 and curved surface part 7 is scanned by the probe 1 in an X and a Y direction. This probe 1 is moved along a guide 9 and an arm 11 is rotated around a shaft 12 by an angle theta of rotation to make a scan in the X and Y directions while profiling the shape of the surface to be inspected. At this time, parameters which determine the inclinations and range of the plane parts 6 and 8 of the surface to be inspected and the curvature and range of the curved surface part 7 are set and the position of the probe 1 is calculated from the parameter values and angle theta of rotation. Consequently, an ultrasonic flaw detection position is accurately found. The angle of rotation of the arm is therefore detected to obtain probe position information, so the flaw detection as to the surface to be inspected which consists of the plane part and curved surface part is performed with high efficiency.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the size of an ultrasonic probe and to improve its precision of flaw detection by providing a plane type shoe of nearly the same size with the contacting surface of the probe detachably to the contact surface of the probe. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic prober 9 fo a nozzle is so manufactured previously as to input an ultrasonic wave beam having an optimum angle of diffraction for every nozzle. The probe-side surface 4 of the plane type shoe 10 is worked flatly and the contact surface 6 for an object body is worked into a curved surface such as a cylinder surface. Then, the probe 9 and shoe 10 are fitted detachably with screws. Thus, the size is reduced and the precision of flaw detection is improved.
