    • PURPOSE:To protect a weld zone of stainless steel from a corrosive atmosphere by coating the weld zone of stainless steel in contact with highly corrosive aq. soln. of nitric acid with highly corrosion resistant metal. CONSTITUTION:An electrolytic cell 1 is provided at the front end of a remote- control arm 6, each of electrodes 9, 10 is provided inside and outside the electrolytic cell 1 and the outside electrode 10 is connected to an apparatus to be treated through a lead wire 14. Using the inside electrode 9 as a cathode and the outside electrode 10 as an anode in this apparatus, an anodic electrolysis is carried out to the weld zone to remove its oxide scale. At the time of electroplating, the electrolytic cell 1 of the apparatus is functioned as a plating vessel, plating bath is circulated on behalf of electrolytic solution and the weld zone can be covered with a plated layer by using the inside electrode 9 as a cathode and the outside electrode 10 as an anode. The weld zone 5 exposed an active metal surface 4 is coated by electroplating method with a highly corrosion resistant metal 2 and the weld zone 5 is protected from a corrosive atmosphere.

    • PURPOSE:To evaluate corrosion resistance, by electrolyzing a zirconium-base alloy in acidic electrolytic aqueous solution by using the same as an anode and calculating the polarization curve thereof. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous sulfuric acid solution 2 is received in an electrolytic cell 1 as an electrolyte and a specimen 3 comprising a zirconium-base alloy is used as an anode while platinum 4 is used as the opposed electrode and a saturated calomel electrode 6 is used as a collimation electrode through a salt bridge 5 to calculate the polarization curve 7 of the zirconium-base alloy. The change in current density at constant potential is lowered in a uniform gradient with the elapse of time. When current density is not changed even at arbitrary voltage, it is judged that the zirconium-base alloy is a material having high corrosion resistance.
