    • PURPOSE:To make a service life longer by forming a container which is partly openable and closable and opening the container only when the container is inserted into a service device. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic disk device 1 is normally hermetically closed by a cap 6 which is held closed. Namely, the cap 6 is pressed by means of a hermetic spring 7 to a gasket 12 for hermetic closing, by which hermeticity is maintained in the device 1. A lock pin 8 is unlocked by utilizing an unlocking hole 9 and the cap 6 is made openable and closable when the device 1 is inserted into the arranging device. The hermetic structure is thus maintained and the infiltration of dust from outside is prevented in an ordinary use state. On the other hand, the opening/closing part of the container is opened to permit cleaning of the magnetic head and magnetic disk and replenishing of the magnetic disk with a lubricant when the device 1 is inserted into the arranging device. Cleaning of the case inside is thus possible. Since the arranging service of the device 1 in an arbitrary period of time is possible, the performance is maintained and the service life is prolonged.

    • PURPOSE:To correctly detect a partial damage in the early stage of the surface of a rotary disk medium caused by the sliding motion without fail in a method to evaluate the strength of the medium by pressing a test piece to slide on the surface of the rotating disk medium thereby to detect the vibration or the change of the frictional resistance of the test piece. CONSTITUTION:An output 16 of an AE sensor for detecting the vibration of a test piece and an output 17 of a strain gauge for detecting the frictional resistance are synchronously obtained with the rotation of a medium (signal 11). The change of the signal outputs 16, 17 over a fixed level is detected based on the fixed detecting level. If the obtained signal (output 19a of the AE level sensor and output 19b of the level sensor of the strain gauge) appears at the position of the same angle for not smaller than a predetermined number of times (e.g. when an angle signal is detected for a predetermined number of times at the position of the rotating phase theta deg.), a reproducibility judging signal generated, and the medium is judged to have a partial damage on the surface thereof.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a magnetic head and a magnetic disk from being stuck to each other at the time the stoppage of a magnetic disk device by promoting the falling of lubricant stuck on a floating surface in the floating of the mag netic head. SOLUTION: In this magnetic head, parts having minute difference in level for accumulation of lubricant 6 are formed at flow-out ends of the floating surface 3 of a slider 1. When lubricant 8 stuck on the floating surface 3 of the slider 1 in the working of the magnetic disk device is collected in the parts 6 having difference in level and becomes a volume of not less than a certain volume, the lubricant 8 is brought into direct contact with the magnetic disk medium at the time of the contact between the floating surface 3 of the slider 1 and the magnetic disk or in the operation of a CSS and lubricant 8 falls off from the slider 1. Lubricant 8 accumulated on the parts 6 having difference in level repeats stickings and fallings in this manner and, as a result, the increasing of lubricant to be stuck on the slider 1 is suppressed.
