    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for measuring a flying height of a magnetic head slider stably flying over a compact and transparent cylinder.
      SOLUTION: A cylindrical hub 4 having a through hole 32 or a groove 32' is attached to the inside of a hollow quartz cylinder 3. The magnetic head slider 1 is arranged, facing the quartz cylinder 3. The hub 4 and the cylinder 3 are rotated by a motor 52. Light of a light source 63 is emitted from a side opposite to the magnetic head slider 1. The intensity of interference light from interference fringes produced by the light having passed through the through hole 32 or the groove 32' of the quartz cylinder 3 and the hub 4 on a floating surface of the magnetic head slider 1 is measured by an optical device 9. The flying height of the magnetic head slider 1 from the quartz cylinder 3 is obtained from the intensity of the interference light.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the smoothness accuracy of a magnetic recording medium surface without damaging said surface by inclining two rail faces and projecting rail face slightly around the outflow end of the two rail faces. CONSTITUTION:There is the projecting rail 4 in the arbitrary position between the rails 2 and 3. This rail inclines by an angle delta (deltanot equal to 0) with respect to the rails 2, 3. The projecting rail 4 inclines also by an angle beta with the rails 2, 3. The projecting rail side face can, therefore, the chipped away from right after the advance of the projecting matter, foreign matter and dust on the medium surface into the spacing between a slider 1 and the medium. The contact time between the projecting matter and the projecting rail is thus prolonged. Namely, the power to remove the projecting matter is related to impulse and the removing power increases when the contact time increases even if the power is the same and, therefore, the projecting matter is surely and efficiently removed. The smoothness accuracy of the medium surface is improved in this way.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein the pressure of a flow-out end pad is raised, then the floating quantity of a magnetic head is not reduced efficiently, sometimes it is raised inversely, when a piezoelectric element is deformed in the direction of reducing the floating quantity.
      SOLUTION: A contact position with a dimple of a suspension is arranged on a flow-on end side nearer than the piezoelectric element, and a pad generating positive voltage is arranged between the dimple and the piezoelectric element in addition to the flow-out end pad. Thereby, variation of positive pressure generated on the flow-in end side nearer than the dimple when the piezoelectric element is deformed, is made small.
