    • PURPOSE:To provide a means for suppressing erroneous CPU fault detection, reducing fault detection time and preventing the load amount of a communication line such as a LAN from being increased by fault monitor processing when monitoring the fault generation of a present CPU. CONSTITUTION:Concerning the fault monitoring method for monitoring a fault with either a standby system CPU 15 or a dedicated equipment at least in a system constituted by connecting more than one present CPUs 11-14 and more than one standby system CPU 1 5 with more than one communication lines, after either of the standby system CPU and any dedicated equipment at least transmits data for fault monitor through the communication line so as to investigate the generation of any fault, the respective present CPU 31-14 make responses after CPU load condition information previously decided corresponding to the use frequency of CPU to the data for fault monitor. Further, the standby system CPU or dedicated equipment changes the response monitor time of time to judge the fault at the present CPU 11-14 corresponding to previously decided relation based on the CPU Load condition information when there is no response of fault monitor data, and the generation of the fault at the present CPU 11-14 is monitored.

    • PURPOSE:To set frequency that backup is executed in accordance with the significance of files, to set a backup processing to be efficient and to reduce a load. CONSTITUTION:A client 10, a server 20 and a file server for backup 30 are connected through a communication network 40. A file management table 200 exists on the memory 21 of the server 20. Update counters recording the number of the update times of the files and the prescribed number of update times for executing backup in accordance with the significance of the files are set for the respective files in the file management table 200. The server 20 once stores input data from the client 10 in the management table 200 as latest information and stores in an external storage device 50. At that time, the update counter is updated, and the server 20 transmits the backup of the file to the server 30 when the number of update times coincides with the prescribed number of update times.

    • PURPOSE:To designate a destination and a service class even when an inexpensive standard terminal equipment or a terminal equipment of any manufacturer is in use in the facsimile mail system employing a store and forward exchange. CONSTITUTION:Plural facsimile terminal equipments 1-1, 1-2 and a store and forward exchange 2 are connected to a packet network 10. The store and forward exchange 2 is provided with a picture converter 4 in addition to an external storage device 3 for picture data storage. The user sends format paper 21 on which the destination or the like is described from the terminal equipment 1-1 together with a mail original 22. The store and forward exchange 2 stores the received picture data to the external storage device 3 and gives a picture data 23 such as a destination to the converter 4. The converter 4 converts the destination or the like in the picture data into a code data and returns the result to the store and forward exchange 2. The store and forward exchange 2 distributes the picture data 24 of the content of the mail to the terminal equipment 1-2 according to it.

    • PURPOSE:To monitor all processors without increasing the load of a monitor processor even when the number of processors is increased by grouping many processors and logically and hierarchically monitoring faults. CONSTITUTION:An inner-group monitoring processor 22 monitors only processors in a group 26 to which the processor 22 itself belongs and a monitoring source processor 24 manages the states of all processors in a parallel computer but does not directly monitor all the processors, which are monitored by inner-group monitoring processors in respective groups. Processors 21 in each group transmit 'alive' messages at a fixed interval when they are normal and the processor 22 judges the normality of the processors 21 when the 'alive' messages are received from respective processors 21, and if an 'alive' message is not received from a certain processor 21 for a fixed time or more, judges the generation of a fault in the processor 21.
