摘要： PURPOSE:To remove the influence of a noise in a not-character area and to normally execute character recognition by dividing a picture element group, which constitutes each reference character pattern, into respective specified area, changing weight in each area and executing pattern matching. CONSTITUTION:The picture element group to constitute each reference character pattern is separated to the respective areas. The respective areas are the picture element group to be the not-character area concerning all the reference character patterns, the picture element group to be the not-character area in the reference character pattern, however, to be a character area in the other reference character pattern, and the picture element group to be the character area in the reference character pattern. Then, the weight is changed in the respective areas and the pattern matching is executed. Thus, the influence of the noise is removed in the not-character part and the recognition rate of the character is improved.

摘要： PURPOSE:To improve a character recognition rate when a character to have much noise in a binary picture is read by executing pattern matching for a character template, which is limited by a special mask pattern, and a segmented character part. CONSTITUTION:The special mask pattern is defined as a pattern to have a character area and a background part which can identify a character to be similar to the character of the character area. A part, for which the pattern matching is executed, is limited to a part, which is included in the special mask pattern, by this special mask pattern. Then, when there is the noise in a part outside of this pattern, the noise does not affect the pattern matching. Thus, the difference of the character, which is similar to a certain character, can be emphasized and the influence of the noise out of a character area can be reduced. Then, the character recognition rate can be improved.

摘要： PURPOSE:To improve a character recognition rate when there is a noise in a binary picture by providing a procedure to cause the binary data of a picture element to be same in a part to have a noise in an input picture and the part of a standard pattern to correspond to the above mentioned part. CONSTITUTION:The procedure is provided to make the binary data of the picture element same in the part, which has the noise in the input picture, and the part of the standard pattern to correspond to the above mentioned part. Accordingly, it goes to be instable to judge whether the noise part is a character part or a background part, however, the binary data of the picture element in such a noise part have the same value in both the binary picture for character recognition, to which pattern matching is executed, and the standard pattern for character recognition. Thus, the result of the pattern matching in the noise part goes to be same even to any standard pattern and the result of the pattern matching is hardly affected by the existence of the noise part. Then, the character recognition rate is improved.

摘要： PURPOSE:To segment a character area from a character picture of large noise without error by discriminating the area, where the sum total value of histogram values of picture elements is maximum, out of areas, each of which consists of continuous picture elements which include a reference picture element and whose number corresponds to the size of a character, as the character area. CONSTITUTION:The character picture is divided to picture elements to convert it to a binary picture, and the picture element histogram of the binary picture is generated, and one of picture elements in the binary picture included in a reference area is defined as the reference picture element of the character area. The area where the sum total value of histogram values of picture elements is maximum out of areas consisting of continuous picture elements which include the reference picture element and whose number corresponds to the size of a character is discriminated as the character area. Thus, an area deviated from the true character area is prevented from being discriminated as the character area, and discrimination of the character area is not affected though the noise having a histogram value larger than that of the character area exists near the character area.
