Outputted information is sent to a display part 6 through an output interface 5 to a display part 6 and is sent to the display part 6. Information of the time when the optical head or the like should be cleaned is displayed on the display part 6.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit the access to a recording region exceeding a BIOS limit value by identifying a master command and a slave command, executing recording and reproducing operations to the regions of a recording medium previously allocated to the respective commands and having magnetic disk devices identified in such a manner that the master and slave disk devices exist in one magnetic disk device. SOLUTION: A disk controller 7 receives the command issued from a host computer 1 and makes discrimination as to whether the target drive of the command from a drive selection register is the master side or the slave side. If the command is issued to the master side, its desired address is held and if the command is issued for the slave side, the address obtained by adding an offset value for an already determined value component to the desired address is determined as the desired address and the access is made to the recording region of the recording medium 10. The access beyond the BIOS limit value is made possible by dividing the recording region of the recording medium 10 into the recording regions 11 and 12.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the overhead time required for executing the straddling of a track by starting a repositioning operation to an adjacent track without waiting a normal completion judgement by a read/write data control part at the time of completing a track access prior to executing the straddling of a straddling track.
      SOLUTION: A positioning control part makes access to end data sector 3 being in a target physical track N by an access request by performing a head positioning operation while using servo data 1. At this access completion time, the part starts a repositioning operation to an adjacent physical track N+1 without waiting the normal completion judgement by the read/write control part. Then, the parts performs a positioning operation to the leading data sector 6 in the physical track N+1 being a sector position continuous to the pre- accessed data sector 3. Thus, at the time of executing an access straddling the physical track, the repositioning start to a next target track can be performed in the shortest time by using the servo data.
