    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the display quality by controlling gradation characteristics of a display device in accordance with the luminance distribution of a display image and to reduce deterioration of a spontaneous light emission element which is caused by keeping the spontaneous light emission element lit, by such control that proper display is performed in accordance with the luminance distribution of the display image. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with a display part 14, cathode power source parts 15 and 17, a scanning signal drive circuit 12, a data signal drive circuit 11, a display control part 4, a current measurement part 19 which measures current quantities supplied to a plurality of pixels of the display part 14 from cathode power source parts 15 and 17 a plurality of times within one frame period to obtain a current variation, and a gradation characteristic control part 27 which generates luminance distribution information for one picture on the basis of the current variation.
