    • PURPOSE:To enable to perform a highly efficient operation conforming to an operating condition, by regulating an air valve so that a water level, detected by a water level detector, is equal to an optimum water level in a water turbine found according to predetermined control characteristic in case an operating condition is provided. CONSTITUTION:A water level in a water turbine found by a water level detector 20 is compared with a water level in a water turbine found by a means 19 for finding an optimum water level in a water turbine to regulate the degree of opening of an air valve 22 by means of an air quantity controller 21 so that the detected water level in the water turbine is equal to the optimum water level. As a result, in case an operating condition including a head, a rotative speed, the degree of opening of a guide vane, and a width of a water passage is constant, a normally constant water level in a water turbine is held. In case a change in such operating condition occurs, the detecting results of the water level detector 20 are compared with the optimum water level in the water turbine, subsequent to such change, found by the means 19 to regulate the degree of opening of the air valve 22, resulting in ability to perform a highly efficient operation conforming to an operating condition.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the hydraulic loss of a water turbine produced on the inside of a runner, by reducing the water flow rate by decreasing the opening of guide vanes temporarily in low-output operation of the water turbine, and thereby lowering the water surface under the runner for feeding air to the inside of the runner. CONSTITUTION:In low-outut operation of a water turbine, the water flow rate is reduced temporarily by decreasing the opening of guide vanes 6. By thus lowering the water surface 11, a hollow passage is formed on the downstream side of jet flow 12 and air is supplied to the central portion of a runner 1. In shifting the point of operation in the low-output range to a point of operation in the high-output range, the hydraulic loss produced on the inside of the runner 1 can be reduced by feeding air sufficiently to the central portion of the runner 1. With such an arrangement, it is enabled to operate the water turbine at a high output (at a high efficiency).

    • PURPOSE:To prevent vibration by providing individually a plurality of guide vanes capable of opening and closing to adjust the opening of the guide vane such that the downstream side of sectional area of flow path varying with the opening and closing amount of these vanes is always smaller than the upstream side. CONSTITUTION:A normal guide vane 6 is provided intermediately between upper and lower water path walls 7, 8 and a guide vane 12 provided near the wall 8 to be respectively supported by individual rotary shafts 13, 14 while being drivably opened and closed by a drive mechanism. Also, the guide vane 12 is provided with a curved surface 15 smoothly contacting a curved surface 8' of the wall 8 and the other surface 16 contacting a wall portion 8'' at the runner 2 side so that the extensions of these both surfaces intersect with each other near the runner to form the downstream end 17. And when both guide vanes are rotated counterclockwise, the min. sectional area portion of flow path at the lower side water path 9' provides the downstream end 17 in the same way as in the full opened time so that passing water stream provides a reduced one with small head loss and cavitation hardly occurs.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the performance by peeling the water flow at the lower wall side thereby preventing peeling at the guide vane side under small opening of guide vane. CONSTITUTION:A hole 15 for communicating between a flow path 13 and the interior of casing 14 is made through the lower wall of a flow-through turbine. Under small opening of a guide vane 4, air in the casing 14 is fed through said through-hole 15 by means of the negative pressure. Said air will cause peeling of water flow 12 at the lower wall 8 side. Consequently, peeling will not occur at the guide vane 4 side resulting in improvement of the performance.

      CONSTITUTION: Notched port 22 with 30° in the swept-back angle is provided with the length corresponding to 1/4 the length l between the front shroud 4 and the rear shroud 6 which are situated on the upstream side of a runner vane 2. Thus, the flow near the front shroud in the conventional use as shown by broken lines with arrow is flowed by being pushed to the front shroud 4 as shown by actual lines with arrow, and generation of cavitation can be controlled.
