    • PURPOSE:To enable accurate calculation of peak pulse height regardless of saturation when impinging sounds of foreign matters in a nuclear reactor vessel is amplified, by detecting that the amplifier output of an acoustic signal reaches the amplifier saturation level. CONSTITUTION:In the detection of foreign matters generated in a nuclear reactor, impinging sounds of foreign matters in the vessel is detected with a sensor 1 to send a signal to an amplifier 2. The output of the amplifier 2 which has a characteristic of attenuating in an exponential function is converted into a pulse with a comparator 4 after rectified with a rectifier circuit 3 and then, the waveform thereof is memorized temporarily into a memory 5. Then, a microcomputer 6 searches the largest width of pulses with respect to the waveforms memorized in the memory 5 to represent the largest pulse width detected by tau. Then, the time length T is determined to the final pulse from the pulse with the largest pulse width and the peak pulse height A is computed by the formula, wherein Vs is a known value indicating the saturation level of the amplifier 2 and alpha is an attenuation constant, which is predetermined. The peak pulse height A thus obtained is shown on a display 7.

    • PURPOSE:To minimize errors by using sound data at a reference point effectively when pattern distances between un unknown sound source and a reference sound source are converted into the distance between the sound sources. CONSTITUTION:Sound detectors S1, S2...Si are mounted at appropriate points on a pressure container 1 to record output signal waveforms thereof on a wave form recorder 2 while the peak value thereof and a signal arrival time are stored into an auxiliary memory 6 as reference data. In addition, the container 1 is divided into proper mesh points and pattern distances between the mesh points and a reference point are calculated and stored into the auxiliary memory 7. Now when the generation of a sound is actually detected, a calculator 3 fetches sound signals from an unknown sound source outputted from the detectors S1, S2...Si and calculates pattern distances between the unknown sound source data and the reference sound source data to search mesh points coinciding with the pattern distances from the memory 7. When a plurality of equal pattern distance curves are obtained by connecting the mesh points coinciding the pattern distances, the unknown sound source exists at the intersection of the curves. But interference of sound waves takes places depending on the shape of the container 1 and the transmission path of sound and so, indication is done on a display circuit 5 after due correction thereof.

The memorized waveforms are analyzed by a computer 130 for identifying sound source positions and measuring impact energy to extract information necessary for identification of position and estimation of energy. A reference sound source data library memory 140 is produced to record time difference in the arrival of acoustic signals and peak values of wave height.
