    • PURPOSE:To eliminate nonuniformity of density in printing derived from unevenness of resistance values by a method wherein heating bodies for each of pixels are made up of two element resistance bodies, wiring for common electrodes is made in a twofold structure, one of which is for common electrodes on odd-number side and another is for common electrodes on even-number side, and each of the common electrodes are connected one another after adjustment is made to the resistance values of all of the element resistance bodies. CONSTITUTION:In formation of common electrodes in two layers with a part of an insulating membrane 5 cut out, common electrodes 1a on odd-number sides are connected to a side common wiring 4a with common electrodes 1b on even-number sides made independent of a side common wiring 4b, and an electrode pattern is formed on the lower layer. The insulating membrane 5 is then formed in a width not interfering with individual electrodes 2 in the direction of main scanning. Then cut-out parts are formed on the insulating membrane 5 so that projecting parts thereof facing a resistance body 3 cover over the common electrodes la. An electric conductive membrane 6 is formed further so that it runs over the parts projecting toward the resistance body 3 of the insulating membrane 5, and bridges each of the common electrodes 1b on the even-number sides, and thereby each of the common electrodes 1b is connected with a side common wiring 4b. Then resistance body 3 is formed. Each of element resistance bodies located between individual electrodes 2 and the common electrodes 1a, 1b is electrified, and thereby adjustment is made to resistance values of the element resistance bodies.

    • PURPOSE:To lighten steeply frictional resistance by a method wherein a contact preventive means is provided which does not bring an edge side on a downstream side in an ink film carrying direction of a ceramic substrate into practical contact with an ink film. CONSTITUTION:A small diameter roller 9 is so provided as to come into contact with an ink film 4 near an edge side on a downstream side in an ink film carrying direction of a ceramic substrate 7, and the roller 9 is held freely rotatively with a radiation shield by a simple journal mechanism. The roller 9 is so fitted as to protrude very minutely to a platen 1 side from a heating element forming surface of the ceramic substrate 7. Thereby, an edge side corner part 7a on the downstream side in the ink film carrying direction of the ceramic substrate 7 does not bring into practical contact with the ink film 4. Since the roller 9 is rotated following transfer of the ink film 4 on the downstream side in the ink film carrying direction of a thermal head assembly 5, frictional resistance on the downstream side in the ink film carrying direction of the thermal head assembly 5 is steeply reduced compared with conventional one.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a smooth photographic printed image by uniforming distribution of tempera ture in each pixel on the surface of a thermal recording head by a method wherein a protec tive layer of a thick film type thermal head is made to be a two layer structure of an electric insulating protective layer and a thermal diffusion film. CONSTITUTION:A partial glazed layer 2 being a thermal resistant layer, an electrode 3 and further a thick film resistor 4 are successively laminated on an alumina substrate 1. Further, an insulating protective layer 5 is formed and a metallic layer 6 as a thermal diffusion film (a high thermal conductive layer) is, in a beltlike manner, formed thereon so as to be located above the thick film resistor 4. The metallic film 6 is formed as follows. Paste of adding glass particles and organic binder to 88-99 wt % of, for instance, gold, silver, or copper is printed with a screen printer, is dried, and is burnt so that a pattern width in the subscan direction becomes 50-150 % of the width of a thermal resistor. Further, a surface protective layer 7 the surface of which is smooth and which has glass having conductivity as a main component is formed as an uppermost layer to construct a thermal head. Since the metallic film 6 is high in thermal conductivity, heat is diffused in the inward direction of the surface, and heat generated in the resistor 4 is, in a uniform distribution manner, conducted to the surface of the surface protective layer 7. Then, a smooth image can be outputted.

    • PURPOSE:To make it possible to apply processing even to a narrow space between electrodes with a high degree of precision by cutting off irregularities, in width direction, of resistor due to the limit of printing accuracy by applying laser beam etc., after the printing of resistance paste and before burning. CONSTITUTION:Separate electrodes 3 and a common electrode 4 are disposed on an insulated substrate 1 and heat storing layer 2, and resistance paste is applied thereto in a main scanning direction by screen printing. Thereafter, in order to remove diluents having been added to allow smooth coating in printing, said paste is dried at about 150 deg.C. And before burning, laser beam is applied to part of resistor 5 along the main scanning direction of recording to cut off excessive resistor 6 protruding on both sides in the width direction. In this manner, a resistor 5 provided with precise picture element and resistance value can be formed. Energy of the laser beam applied in this case is about 1/5 or less of energy required for cutting after burning, hence damage to the electrodes 3 and 4 is negligible and influence on resistance values of resistor due to laser processing can be neglected.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording head reduced in power to be applied and generating no damage of an electrode part and a heat generating part by flattening the upper surface of the heat generating part to position the same above the upper surface of the electrode part. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal head, an electrode part 51 is constituted of an electrode film 18 and the protective film 20 on the electrode film 18 while a heat generating part 21 is constituted of a heat generating resistor 19 and the protective film 20 on said heat generating resistor 19. The upper surface of the heat generating part 21 is flat and the diameter of a drum 22, around which recording paper 26 consisting of printing paper 23 and ink paper 24 is wound, is far larger than the length (l) of said upper surface and, therefore, the contact of the heat generating part 21 with the recording paper 26 is regarded as plane-to-plane contact and, even when the rigidity of the recording paper 26 is high and hard to deform, almost uniform contact pressure is obtained over the total length of the heat generating part 21. Therefore, an image print of high image quality can be obtained and, since the contact pressure with the recording paper does not become excessive locally, there is no possibility damaging the electrode part and the heat generating part and, further, since the electrode part is not brought into contact with the recording paper, the power applied to the head is reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate ununiformity of density, reduce scatter of resistance values and attain higher image quality, by simultaneously polishing all sections in a main scanning direction of contact by rotating a polishing roller, and polishing a curved surface by oscillating a substrate to the left and right sides in an auxiliary scanning direction. CONSTITUTION:To polish a heat generating resistor 15 in a polishing step, a substrate 2 fired after providing the resistor 15 is fixed to a vacuum chuck 5, and is accurately set on the lower side of a polishing roller 1 in parallel to the roller 1. A fixed load is applied to the substrate 2 by an applying part 4 through a load sensor 3. The surface of the resistor 15 is polished as one body by rotating the roller 1. Push-up pins 10a, 10b lifting the vacuum chuck 5 are alternately swung to stoppers 11a, 11b by a swinging mechanism 8 and a cylinder 9, whereby the resistor 15 is polished to have a smooth curved surface. Thus, adjustment of resistance and reduction of scatter of resistance are simultaneously performed, and the surface of the resistor 15 is finished to a smooth curved surface having a surface roughness of not more than + or -1mum. A protective film is also treated in the same manner.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively transfer the heat generated by a resistor to a printing paper and contrive enhancement of thermal efficiency of a thermal recording head, by providing an insulating film beneath a resistor film located amid a pair of conductor films while setting the width of the insulating film to be smaller than the spacing between the conductor films. CONSTITUTION:An insulating layer 5 having a width smaller than the spacing between electrodes 3, 3 is provided on an insulating substrate 1 by screen printing, followed by drying, firing and polishing the surface of the layer 5. A resistor film 2 is provided on the insulating layer 5 by an ordinary method so that end parts thereof adjoining the electrodes are located on the outside of the insulating layer 5 to step a part thereof adjoining the substrate 1. A pair of the electrodes 3, thinner than the insulating layer 5, are provided at a predetermined interval at the end parts of the resistor film 2, and a protective layer 4 is provided thereon. Thus, the heat generated by a resistor can be transferred to a printing surface without obstruction by the electrode parts, and thermal efficiency is greatly enhanced. In addition, the shape of a printed dot is the same as that of a heat generating resistor, and printing quality is enhanced.
