摘要： PURPOSE:To produce a pagodite-silicon carbide fired brick for lining a molten metal vessel excellent in structural stability and durability. CONSTITUTION:An inorg. binder is added to a blend consisting essentially of 3-40wt.% silicon carbide and the balance starting material for pagodite and they are kneaded, molded and fired at 600-1,200 deg.C. The resulting fired brick is not deteriorated by oxidation because it does not contain carbon, and press cracking due to sudden expansion is prevented by previous firing.

摘要： PURPOSE:To protect a lime filter against steam in the stage of preheating a vessel for a molten metal provided with said filter and to prevent deterioration of the structure owing to a hydration reaction in the stage of preheating the vessel by covering the filter with a shielding body. CONSTITUTION:A vessel 1 for a molten metal is lined internally with a lining material 6 and is coated with a coating material 7 on the surface thereof. A CaO-contg. filter 2 is installed therein in such a way that the base and both flanks of the filter contact tightly the material 7 via a partition plate 8. A refractory material 9 is imposed thereon and the top surface is fixed by a keep plate 5. A shielding body 10 is then pressed to both end faces of the filter 2 in the direction where a molten steel passes so as to cover the filter. The shielding body is wound and set by a metal wire, etc. A top cap 13 is then placed thereon and is heated by a gas burner 11 to perform simultaneously drying of the material 7 and preheating of the inside of the vessel 2. The gas consumption and preheating time required for preheating are reduced by half according to the above- mentioned method.
