SOLUTION: The data erasing device for erasing data of a magnetic disk 5 by a horizontal magnetic field by a magnet comprises a body case having a passage made to let a tray shuttle back and forth, a demagnetization circuit adjacently arranged so that a plurality of permanent magnets arranged along the passage to have polarities so that the magnets are mutually adsorbed, and a tray 21 with a size capable of accommodating a magnetic disk device 1 and reprocicating in the passage. The data erasing device in which a first accommodation groove 63 and a second accommodation groove 31 for accommodating the magnetic disk device 1 are formed in the tray 21, the first accommodation groove 63 and the second accommodation groove 31 are formed to cross each other at an angle of 45°or 90°.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data erasing apparatus which can surely erase data with a simple operation regardless of a recording system to prevent leakage of stored data of a magnetic disk apparatus to be discarded. SOLUTION: The data erasing apparatus 60 erasing data of a magnetic disk 5 by a magnetic field in a horizontal direction and a vertical direction by a magnet is constituted of a main body case 62 having a path 68 continued to an opening part 67 provided at one side plane, a first magnetic field generating source arranged adjacently so that polarity of three permanent magnets provided at one plane of this path 68 attract one another, a second magnetic field generating source constituted of three permanent magnets opposing to the first magnetic field generating source across the path 68, and a tray 61 having size in which a magnetic recording medium 1 is housed and it can be reciprocated in the path 68. The polarity of only the permanent magnet positioned at one side of end parts of the second magnetic field generating source is made the same direction as the opposing permanent magnet, polarities of other two permanent magnet are made an inverse direction to the opposing permanent magnet.
