    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system and a pickup method which make it possible to pick up a call terminating at a real terminal currently being called surely in a wider scope by a simple processing operation.SOLUTION: A switching system, which processes calls between a plurality of real terminals, stores therein pickup group extension information stipulating access time at which scope extension is possible and pickup groups subject to scope extension for each pickup group, and sets during calling a virtual terminal of the scope extension pickup group according to an elapsed time from the start of calling at a real terminal. When a pickup processing request asserted by a prescribed operation at a real terminal in an idle state is received, the switching system checks to see if a real terminal or virtual terminal currently being called exists in a pickup group to which the requesting real terminal belongs, and executes a pickup process so that a call terminating at the relevant real terminal currently being called is picked up at the requesting real terminal.
