    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart a disk device which is utilizable as an external memory of a computer system with sufficient storage capacity at a low cost and further compactness property, reduced weight, low power consumption and mechanical impact resistance which are advantages for an IC memory card.
      SOLUTION: The disk device is provided with a disk drive part for rotating a disk in which information is stored, a head mechanism part for write/read information in/from the disk and an electronic circuit, including an interface circuit, inside a housing. Furthermore, a connector connected with the electronic circuit is provided outside the housing; a frame which is an insertion guiding part for inserting the housing into a slot of an external apparatus is attached to an outer peripheral part of the housing, and a projection part for absorbing play and vibration in a state where the housing is inserted into the external apparatus, is formed at a part of the frame; so that the overall external size, including the housing and the connector and size of the IC memory card standardized by PCMCIA-ATA, have interchangeability.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk device which can be utilized as an external memory of a computer system, has a sufficient memory capacity at a low cost and can be provided with compactness, lightness in weight, lower electric power consumption and mechanical impact resistance which are the advantages of an IC memory card.
      SOLUTION: This disk device has a connector which is fixed to the outside of a housing including a base and a cover, a disk driving section which includes a spindle motor for rotating a disk to store information, a head mechanism section which writes and reads the information to and out of the disk and an electronic circuit including an interface circuit within the housing. The spindle motor has first bearing means for rotatably supporting the disk and a first fixing shaft for fixing the first bearing means into the prescribed position in the housing. The first fixing shaft is fitted into the base and is fixed by caulking. The external form dimensions including the housing and the connector are so set as to have interchangeability with the dimensions of the IC memory card standardized by a PCMCIA-ATA.

    • PURPOSE:To make it possible to connect the titled system to various host controllers without impressing any load and to attain effective offset correction by inhibiting a reading output and an index output and automatically updating an offset when the updating of the offset is not executed during a prescribed period. CONSTITUTION:A control means 4 is provided with a timer for managing offset correction timing to invalidate an offset value by time-out and to allow a host device having an error retrying function to output a seak instruction to accelerate the updating of offset correction. When the offset value is invalidated after time-out and a seak instruction is not received within a fixed time, the control means 4 temporarily inhibits a reading output and the output of an index signal from a magnetic disk 1 to automatically execute offset correction and then validates the reading output and the output of the index signal again. Consequently, the system can be connected to various devices without generating no change in the host devices and offset correction can be attained without generating any new load.

    • PURPOSE:To simplify the titled device and to lower its cost by applying all-wave rectification to an analog signal corresponding to previously written information in two recording areas on a track obtained through a head, and detecting the radial direction position to the track of the head based on a wave height in a corresponding section of the respective recording areas of the all-wave rectifying signal. CONSTITUTION:In a reading system, a magnetic head 3 on a magnetic disk 2 rotating by a DC motor 1 is moved to a predetermined track position by driving a stepping motor 4 based on a seek instruction from a host device. When the magnetic head 3 reaches to a predetermined track position, an analog signal corresponding to an information recorded in the track through the magnetic head 3 and a head driving circuit 5 is outputted. This analog signal passes through a filter 6, respective processings of a differentiating circuit 7 and an amplifying circuit 8 and is converted into a rectangular pulse by a pulse shaper 9. Further, in a rear stage, based on the rectangular pulse from this pulse shaper 9, such a processing is done that an information recorded in the track is decoded.
