    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC type gas discharge display device, especially, that of a plasma tube array type, on which a return path of discharge current arranged between X-side and Y-side driver circuits arranged at a left side and a right side of the display device is formed rationally and effectively. SOLUTION: The gas discharge display device (10) has a structure interposing many slender discharge tubes arranged in parallel with each other between a transparent front face side electrode supporting base plate (14) having a plurality of paired display electrodes (15, Xj, Yj) formed on its inside surface, and a transparent back face side electrode supporting base plate (14) having a plurality of address electrodes (Ai) crossing the plurality of paired display electrodes formed on its inside surface. Stripe-shaped light shielding conductive films (18) are formed on outside surface of the front face side electrode supporting base plate in compliance with positions between respective paired display electrodes. The light shielding conductive films are commonly connected to standard potential points (GNDx, GNDy) of X-electrode side driver circuit and Y-electrode side driver circuit at its end parts to form a return-path of an alternating discharge current.
